Update: Decided to give The Woodman another try following the owner's response.......
Again, both meals had to be eaten separately because one was delivered wrong however this time it was just myself and my husband, so ruined the meal somewhat!
I can only assume that either the chef doesn't know how to cook steak or meals are left under a heat lamp for a long time before serving as our sirloin was massively over cooked. Even after it was re-fired it wasn't right - over-cooked and full of grizzle.
The seabass, which was wonderful last time, was served up with beans that had been microwaved so much they were hard and chewy (photo). The fish and sauce were still nice but as a meal it was a failure.
Very disappointing, the place wasn't full so the kitchen can't have been struggling with demand.
So, nice pub for a drink but we won't be eating here again.
Initial review: Warm and friendly pub. Went with a party of friends for a Christmas meal and we had a nice time despite the pub completely messing up our pre-ordered menu choices. In terms of the food, I can only say from my point of view - not everyone at the table had the same experience as me. The food I ate was lovely, though I had to wait for my main as they had forgotten to cook it:- Sea Bass - beautiful, two decent fillets, crispy skin, well cooked, sauce delicious. Served with green beans and new potatoes. Chocolate Brownie with ice cream - large, warm, rich & gooey - perfect. My colleagues who ordered the Turkey Christmas Dinner were very disappointed because the food was cold. And the Festive Burger turned out to be a burger with a burned bacon wrapped chipolata stuck on top of the bun - again, somewhat of a...
Read moreWhen I arrived there was no one waiting to be served. The only member of staff present was the manageress who was having a conversation (not serving) a customer. I waited for a minute of two. The person talking to the manageress indicated that she should serve me but the manageress seemed to suggest that I could wait. Another customer arrived and waited. In a minute or two a barman appeared and served the other customer first (without even asking who arrived first).
When served I ordered a drink and a curry and sat in the garden.
Shortly two curries arrived, I pointed out that I ordered only one and asked also for some cutlery, which arrived after I had waited a couple of minutes.
I moved indoors as it was cooling, only for every speaker in the pub to start broadcasting the quiz at a rather loud volume. There was no indoor seating where one could avoid this.
I wonder if the attitude of the manageress was influenced by the fact that about a year ago I complained that people were not mask wearing - though supposed to do so - and that the staff were not enforcing this. I had not been back since.
Is this a way...
Read moreGiven wrong table although we had booked, then had to be moved to correct table and someone else had to move from there. Bottle of drink with wet bottom placed on table which slid off onto floor which manager(?) did not agree with - said it was impossible for that to happen. Another customer saw it happen. Eventually given another drink. Served wrong starter as our table number had been used by someone else - although sitting at table 18 we would have bill for table 17. Food was not great - edible. Manager had obviously spoken to a waitress about the bottle on the floor as she apologised when we went to pay the bill. We explained it was not her fault as she was nowhere near the table when it happened - nobody touched it. More likely to be due to wonky table (and wet bottle bottom) which has a piece of paper/card under one leg. Manager(?) needs to go on course in how to deal with public. This was supposed to be a birthday treat. We will not be returning, and have cancelled a family get together we were going to have at the Station pub in Hampshire in the...
