This cafe is very popular - during the August bank holiday, staff were having to turn customers away as they were full. Thankfully, I arrived early enough to get a table without a reservation. The decor has a woodland theme and is tastefully done. This cafe has an excellent menu - large sections for vegan and gluten free items. In addition to the extensive menu, there's a large board of daily specials for hot and cold food. There's also a display case with freshly baked items. I had a vegan croissant with scrambled 'eggs' (chickpea flour) and avocado. The croissant was flaky and delicious, exactly like an all butter version! The filling was generous and tasty too. This was followed by a rhubarb bakewell slice. I love bakewell tarts but it's difficult to find vegan versions. This 1 hit the spot. Lastly, I was smitten with the possibility of flotted cream - a vegan alternative to clotted cream. I ordered a vegan cream tea to take away which had a large scone (choice of fruit or plain) a little pot of flotted cream and a small jar of strawberry jam. It was outstanding. If it hadn't been such a warm day (and with no access to a fridge) I would have bought a large pot of cream which they sell saparately. I had a strawberry milkshake with vegan ice cream and oat milk. I could have had 10 of these, it tasted so good. It was a little difficult to get the attention of staff towards the end of the meal because they were so busy, so patience is needed during the...
Read moreI visited with my wife for lunch on Sunday 13th January, it was the first cafe we came to after parking up in Lyndhurst and maybe we should have taken a wander first and compared other cafes, pubs and restaurants as there is so much choice. I had a sausage and onion baguette, my wife had coronation chicken baguette, we each had a side of chips (my pet hate - chips were served in a pretentious little metal bucket but that's not a dig at the cafe... everyone seems to have jumped on this bandwagon). Add a drink each and it came to just over £20, maybe everywhere in Lyndhurst charges these prices but to be honest I regularly eat better sausage rolls in greasy spoons at a fraction of the cost - these sausages tasted like they had been cooked a few hours earlier, likewise the temperature suggested they hadn't just been prepared. However to be fair I should point out that my wife however really enjoyed her chicken baguette, the staff were friendly and attentive, our drinks were very nice, and although it was busy it was very...
Read moreWas pleased to find such an extensive menu which catered well for a 3 generation family visit. However the delays for food and the service was extremely poor. Having asked for the childrens food to be done first we waited almost 45 minutes before we finally got food for one of the grandchildren. Whe we complained we eventually discovered that the order had been added to another tables order and then cancelled. Un surprisingly our 6 year old grandson went into meltdown, crying and screaming with frustration! We were told his meal (a waffle) would take 3 minutes. 10 minutes later it appeared. He and his parents had an appointment in London so he had to gobble down his food, but did not have time to finish it before they had to rush off. SO disappointing as the actual food was good. Apologies were offered but perhaps not charging for his meal may have improved things. Will not be visiting again dispite the good...
