Came here Friday, sat outside, fairly busy but not overly so. Tried to get the attention of the server looking after the handful of tables and it was like I was invisible. Started by trying to get eye contact, then waving but no joy. Got up and asked her if I may be able to order. Not great but happens. That was just for some coffees, came back (sadly) Saturday morning hoping for breakfast. Got sat down inside promptly, good start. Then absolutely royally ignored.. There were at least 2 younger Team Members dwardling about, and someone at the counter (part of the time) not serving just walking around and it was impossible to get their attention to place our order. When someone who was seated got their order taken right away we had enough and just left having had zero service since seated, again no one noticing or bothered within the 'service team'. We went almost right opposite to a cafe which delivered great service and food. So we are a tad disappointed with TOTD to be fair, can't blame the servers, just question who's in charge and what training is given for staff to look at customers and 'touch' / check tables etc once seated. If it's super busy (wasnt) then just say so and maybe just get drinks going explaining there may be a delay. Conscious this cafe has high ratings otherwise, so maybe our visits -( that's 2 in 2 days btw) are just bad luck but this place is...
Read moreI called in here today with my partner. I ordered a gold hot chocolate, a deli chocolate mint milkshake and 2 pieces of chocolate cake. We waited for a good 20 minutes which we felt was too long. When my hot chocolate arrived it was luke warm, at best. When the lady brought the cake over she said now one is a little smaller than the other. I said I'll have that and when I saw it omg.. A little smaller was an understatement! I was so angry I sat there and said nothing because if I would have spoke it wouldn't have been nice. It was less than half the size of the other piece yet I paid full price for it. Absolutely, disgusted. And what's worse is it ruined our afternoon because we were both fed up at the poor food, and poor service. When I went to begrudgingly pay for it I saw a third of that cake on display, so why they cut a very small one is beyond me. Now what I should have done is when the lady said one piece is smaller than the other, at that point I should have said let me stop you there, please take the cake back. I'm the paying customer you see and I don't agree to this. But I was too polite and wore it. I need to be more assertive I guess as do other paying customers. Sorry Deli, but we definitely won't be coming back here again. What you did today, was wrong. There is a much better cafe on the high street and it's a lot cheaper too and they don't serve...
Read moreVERY limited menu for those with coeliac. Old Theatre Deli (seemingly) no longer provide gluten free bread…so you cannot even have a sandwich (or bread with meals).I was told this both on a recent visit and, subsequently, when I phoned to enquire. Only cake available, on day of visit, was ubiquitous brownie. Limited options in g/f meals. Seems very harsh for those with medical conditions. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for. Recommend, as g/f alternatives: Alfresco & All Mine Cake on the Lake. Also, the newly opened Oak - at The Saracens Head- appears to be catering for g/f. Goat’s cheese and beetroot salad was good but, sadly, I will be unable to use this cafe frequently now, as such a restricted choice. Just for coffee, maybe? So sad, and somewhat surprising when, in general, more places are becoming increasingly enlightened and aware of allergies and/or medical conditions affecting dietary choices and...
