Went here before jetting off on our family holiday but really wish we hadn't! Thought i'd treat my wife and 2 kids (5 YO & 18 months) to something other than fast food so didn't mind paying a bit extra in the hope for something half decent... Sat down, no kids menu... not a great start. Also no prices stated on the menu at all,. Oh well, we're on holiday! So just went to the bar & ordered 4 x adult meals (2 x Burgers with fries, 2 x bangers & mash) + 1 pint Larger, 1 x coke & 2 x ribena kids drinks. Barman says £71 please. HOW MUCH?!? i said in my head, but thought okay we are on holiday after all so just paid without fuss as i also appreciate we were in an airport so things are always more expensive but at least it would be a nice meal for us all... How wrong I was, all 4 meals were literally identical to 4 boil in the bag Weatherspoon meals (which are fine for the price btw but i'd just spent 71 quid!) Burgers were ridiculously average, chips okay but the kids took one mouthful of mash & one bite of a sausage each and didn't touch the rest. I tried the sausages, absolutely disgusting... dry, burnt and must have been cooked days before then reheated. Mash tasted like it was still half frozen, absolute rubbish. So this resulted in 2 cranky kids on our flight due to them being hungry and then just eating snacks the whole time. The only thing that was decent was the pint of larger, but i guess it should be at £7 a pint! DO NOT EAT HERE, certainly do not ever take your family. Go a bit further down the terminal to Burger King and eat for half the price, like i wish we did. Thanks for putting a downer on the beginning of our long awaited family...
Read moreWe are regular travellers through Newcastle Airport and have noticed a sustained deterioration in the physical condition and cleanliness of Bar 11 at Newcastle Airport. The unit appears to be devoid of any management, leadership or maintenance. When we visited it was almost impossible to find a table. The table that we finally managed to get was dirty, marked, sticky and still had the glasses left from previous occupants. The majority of the other free tables were also unclean and stacked with glasses as well as dirty crockery and cutlery. The bar was also covered with unwashed dirty glasses too. There did not appear to be any form of management or leadership directing or organising staff who seemed to be focused only on serving at the bar. The fabric of the bar is extremely tired and unloved now and I would worry about basic standards as far as environmental health in the kitchen based upon the poor state of the unit out front. Even our 8 and 10 year old boys commented that it was one of (if not) the worst places we had ever taken them. Our other airport choice is Edinburgh and the bars and restaurants there are normally spotlessly clean and...
Read moreThe prices of the food in here are an absolute disgrace, £16.50 for a poxy chicken burger that would set you back not even £5 at Wetherspoons and that would include a drink!
The "table number" service doesn't work if you're a solo traveller like me and not everybody wants to order by phone, especially if you've got a food voucher. This means choosing whatever number you can find with the staff being totally unhelpful with this problem.
I also asked for some tap water in my reusable cup to andtake to the gate and the member of staff just completely ignored me and served it in a pint glass. This very fact made me incredibly frustrated as I'd already had a cancelled flight, gone through security twice because the airside lacks rebooking facilities and waiting to collect my bag.
It's a shame the airport hires predominantly Newcastle College staff who are trained a certain way and aren't used to frequent travellers, only those at 6am travelling to Flopalopolos with their kids during term time to lobster up on a beach for 5 days straight and have a full English...
