I had heard fantastic things about the Cosy Dove so decided to try the Burger and a Pint for £10 deal that they do on a Tuesday. On first glance you have to admire the decor. It is obvious a lot of time effort and money has went into rejuvenating this pub. The server was prompt and courteous and gave us some complimentary home-made bread as we waited - I must say I could have ate a full loaf, it was to die for.
Service of our meal was very fast, when it arrived you could tell time and care were taken in presentation. Regarding portion size I was incredibly satisfied especially since the burger was massive! As well as the size it tasted great, it just melted in your mouth paying a fine compliment to the toasty brioche bun. I highly recommend the triple cooked home-made chips instead of the fries. It is nice to see local produce being sourced and used to make these fresh chips as well as the rest of the meal.
I also managed to squeeze in a sticky toffee pudding for desert and I have to say if you have a sweet tooth like myself you will thoroughly enjoy it. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which really compliments the additional toffee sauce.
Throughout the time I was at the Cosy Dove the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were polite and served with a smile all of the time. Service at the bar was very fast too. I will most certainly be returning to try one of their signature...
Read moreDuring daylight this is a nice, bright pub to sit in, and in the evening it's warm and cosy. There are traditional wooden chairs, comfortable fabric chairs, even a couple of benches for a table seating larger groups. There's a whole range of table sizes. One area has a TV screen so you can watch the sport, but it's separate to the other side so you don't get bothered by it if you aren't interested. Music plays quietly in the background so you can have a private conversation without being overheard, and as the pub fills up in the evening the music is turned up a little bit more but you can still hear what everyone is saying. It serves a wide range of dishes and desserts, hot and cold drinks, or you can just come in to enjoy a pint. The prices are very decent. This pub manages to attract a wide clientele, including students, hospital and university workers, and locals, and makes everyone feel welcome. The staff are very friendly. There is plenty of seating outside for sunny weather, inside is warm during the colder months, and there's a small car park for customers to use. It's a nice pub and I'll...
Read moreGood lunch, at £11.00/£12.00 a head for the main it is not a very cheap lunch but excellent quality, with a premium placed on sourcing local produce. Fair range of lagers and draft ales and a competitively priced winelist which does not overcharge those who just want wine by the glass. Well designed layout for the restaurant and bar areas, pleaseant, comfortable, airy ambience. Courteous and attentive staff. Obviously a very new venture but from first experience it deserves success. A short walk from the town centre so it is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth it. (Note, a couple of reviews in this list are over a year old, when the building was the scruffy old 'Spital' pub under two different and unsuccessful managers. The Cosy Dove is a completely different venture, is completely refurbished and remodelled and only opened in March 2016 so ignore any review...
