The Strawberry is a great bar to visit at anytime but especially on match days as the atmosphere is electric & full of anticipation & excitement ahead of the game with the stadium barely 50 yds over the road - you can't get any closer ! There is a large bar with seating & tables downstairs with a smaller bar upstairs also with tables & seating & a small outside smoking area. Michael the boss man & all his plentiful staff are very friendly & quick at getting you served as you can imagine it gets chocka on every match day but the staff are so good & efficient with your order your away from the bar in no time. Always a great & happy atmosphere with quite often football songs being heard bellowing out around the premises. There are many TV's dotted around both up & downstairs to keep you up to date with the latest sports news & scores along with live football matches being shown. Food & snacks are also available & very nice aswell. The only criticism i have is the state of the toilets on match days, they are very small both up & downstairs & can be quite often needing a clean as kick off time approaches due to the footfall using them but overall it's a great bar & well worth visiting especially on a match day but at all other times aswell. I'm a regular & in there before every home match so a big thankyou to Michael & his great hardworking barstaff. ps keep the Jack Daniel's with only 1 ice cube...
Read moreFinally I plucked up the courage to step over the threshold onto the hallowed ground of The Strawberry. It was my birthday when I went in there and I was determined to make the most of it but for the few while I spent looking around and imagining all the legendary names that had also set foot in there and that reinforced my belief that this wasn't just a normal pub this is as iconic as St James' Park itself. Got chatting to a couple of friendly locals which was nice as I'm not usually that sociable as back home I don't go out to pubs on my own but I felt it was a case of When in Rome and I threw myself into having a laugh and a chat and sampling the local ale one in particular being called Wor Beer or something like that which wasn't my usual taste but I do like to sample local food and drinks when I visit somewhere. Thankyou to the bar staff and the awesome couple sat near the bar who I had a laugh with you guys absolutely made my birthday very special. The Strawberry physically might be a small building but the fact is it's a giant on the local landscape and a very important part of...
Read moreI have wanted to visit the Strawberry for a long time but never got around to it⁰0 till Wednesday. Walking in and seeing all the pictures and memorabilia was probably a little bit better than I had expected and i was expecting a lot. We got a truly warm welcome when we ordered our drinks at the bar.The service was good and the lady behind the bar was also busy going around sanitising the tables. On every table there was a bottle of hand sanitizer which quite surprised me. If you are a Newcastle United supporter I would highly recommend calling in The Stawberry for a drink and a look at the pictures and memorabilia. If you have a walk up the stairs to the balcony you get a great view of St...
