We visited today for a Sunday lunch, it was very busy but we were quickly shown a table. We ordered & paid for our drinks and meals & waited.....& waited. There was no indication from the staff of how long the waiting time was.... However when our meals arrived they were lovely, we decided to order a dessert, but for the price the portions were tiny. If the kitchen can't keep up with the orders coming through then communicate with your front of house staff who can then keep customers informed & maybe explain the waiting time when guests wish to order meals. I would like to commend Alison, this lady was here, there & everywhere, sorting takeaway mix ups, calming waiting guests, serving both food & drinks & clearing tables. The other lady too (sorry didn't get your name) was busy serving drinks & keeping the bar area clean, as for the two young lads we saw.....come on at least smile while delivering food & pick up the pace a little. Being in hospitality myself I know communication is the key to a smooth shift, remember happy staff, happy customers! Thank You, we...
Read moreStaying in Wales for a week and visiting Cardigan, we asked in a local coffee shop if they knew somewhere good to eat in Newport our next destination? They recommended The Royal Oak saying it may not look much from the outside but the food is great. So off we went and we certainly weren't disappointed. We ordered the sea bass with lemon sauce, the Hunter chicken and 2 different curries with rice. The food came and we were all seriously impressed at the quantity and then the quality. The lamb curry was so tender, the king prawn so fresh and plenty of them. The sea bass was huge with amazing lemon sauce and the Hunters chicken comprised two chicken breasts with an amazing sauce. The service was spot and staff were very helpful and friendly. Nice local beers in a very homely pub. We will definitely make a special visit to eat here again. Thank you to all concerned, well done. Those plastic trays you usually get from your local Indian are what the food is served in and they're half full. Lamb Rogan Josh £11.50 a portion, 5-6 shoddy looking lumps of meat. The naan breads are just those doughy lumps you'd probably get alongside a microwave meal, not even cooked through.
Phoned up to complain and got a perplexed response of "Errm, well what do you want me to do?" From a waitor, haha.
Seriously,...
