Stayed here in June to attend a wedding in Nevern/Llwyngwair Manor. We arrived around 6pm-ish on the Friday and did struggle somewhat to get a parking spot, however we got lucky. The car park directly opposie is quite small and narrow, but holds a surprising amount of cars. We were informed of a few extra parking spaces on the main road, and a separate car park at the back, which was a big help the next day.
Dinner that evening was a little pricier than what we would normally pay (£52 for two mains, and two drinks), but it was delicious and the portions were really big. We were really impressed and got to sit outside; being so busy, it made for a good atmosphere. There was a large ‘tent’ with formal seating, as well as a cosy walled-gazebo with heaters, and a further outside seating area. We were amazed at the amount of space, and the Pub is clearly a very popular destination as it was really busy into the early hours of the morning.
Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were really accomodating in preparing us a ‘quick meal’ as we had to rush off 10 minutes after breakfast started. They were really helpful and made us some off-menu items so that we could rush off. The second day, we managed to get a full breakfast which was cereal, followed by toast and a cooked breakfast, with yogurt and fruit on the side (all included in the room price).
Our room was really spacious and cosy, and the bed really comfortable. Shower was really pleasant and later on in the evenings, despite being above parts of the pub, you couldn’t really hear the noise from downstairs. It made for a good night’s sleep all around.
Staff were really friendly from our arrival, and made it clear they would accomodate us however they could if we had any requests. Staff helped us get a local taxi to take us to Llwyngwair (less than 5 minutes away), and also gave us some tips. Will definitely consider staying here again when we are next...
Read moreOnce again our meal at the Golden Lion was exceptional. The only thing that spoiled our evening was the arrival of the live entertainment. The band was called The James Oliver band and from the moment they arrived to set up they showed complete and utter disrespect of the venues patrons. The lead singer Mr Oliver was a loud, obnoxious foul mouthed individual whose only concern was setting up his equipment. He even had the audacity to ask a customer if his wife could move her seat so that he could plug his gear in whilst she was enjoying her meal. Within 15 minutes of his arrival Mr Oliver had succeeded in emptying the bar and that was before he even started playing. I spoke to the young bar staff who were also shocked at his obtuse behaviour and confirmed that it was the first and probably his last time he would be invited to play in the Golden Lion. Unfortunately as he was such an overbearing character, the staff weren't sure how to challenge him so I took it upon myself to point out to him the error of his ways. Things then quietened down until it was time for him to begin his set. Needless to say , as soon as he did my entire party left. Our meal with wine came to well over £200 but was worth every penny and we will return. I will however, check in advance that The James Oliver band is not booked. Golden Lion please take note, this man is damaging your...
Read moreThe owners of this establishment should be extremely proud of what they have achieved. We checked in on the 20th Jan 2018. The staff member who checked us in was very thorough, very chatty and a pleasure to talk to. She showed us to our room giving good info about the hotel. Room was excellent and had a rear car park which was excellent. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was fully booked, however the staff were just as efficient. Took our food order at 18.30 when the kitchen opened and we were eating by 18.50. The only thing I can say about the food was absolutely excellent. Bar was busy all night, but I didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes to get served. Band playing from 21.30 and nice blues cover band. Breakfast this morning, for a while we had the restaurant to ourselves. Again service was second to none. On offer was a range of cereal, fruit juice and fruit. We both went for the full English which again was really tasty. Checked out by 11am, and will certainly return again later this year. I advise all those who read these reviews to get booking as you will have an excellent nights sleep, good food and good service. Well done all the staff and management at the...
