Call into the Coldra Beefeater, for food as we we're on a long journey to Switzerland. It was around 8 when we were passing and remembered going several years eariler and remember the food and service being good. Its was a Friday evening in January and when we went in it was very busy but the atmosphere seemed good. We were showed to our table sat down and were given menu's and not long after the waitress can back and took our order for the drinks and food. Another waitress brought our drinks out and it was only a few minutes and as they were busy thought the service was great considering how busy it was. We received our starters not long after our drinks and started eating thinking that it was gonna be a great meal to sort us out before we got to the ferry and would of had a quick late night meal which probably wasnt great?? After we had eaten the starters and was drinking waiting this is when this went down hill!!! We waited and waited and waited and waited......and waited some more until after three quarters of an hour before i decided to the bar to find out where the main meal was. At this point the the food had arrived at the table and my partner checked it and both meals were cold. Obviously sitting waiting to be servered. The manager themn came to the table and we explained that were weren't happy as we had little time left before the ferry and our meals were cold. And we were offered the meals to be made which we didn't have enough time for or a refund. I was very disappointed with this we weren't even offered a coffee or a dessert or something quick that would of helped with our trip, even something to take with us?? (Whether it would of been possible??) And were left with a refund for the two meals only, not the lot and had to go on with our journey extremely hungry. I can only assume that on the weekend that they get busy and can't cope with the work load?? Or is it?? We happened to pass the Coldra again at the beginning of March after going to a conference in the NEC and happened to be going passed at 7.30 ish and thought maybe on a Wednesday at that time it wouldn't be so busy??? So i called in with my staff members this time and everything seemed to be fine. Nice atmosphere and the service was also good until we had to wait, this time a bit quicker 25minutes but when we had our meals the food was only warm and the steaks we had (considering were fillets) were extremely poor, and very chewy. We are all fans of good cooked steaks, but for the price we paid they were no better than our local pub which does a rump steak and a pint for £7 quid. We decided not to bother with any coffee or desserts and made our way home very unhappy with our meals. I have therefore decided to not return to the Coldra again and will next time take a packed lunch its probably better and wouldn't hold me up waiting. Good luck if you have a good meal, but i certainly wouldn't recommend it or go there again.
Also i run my own business and rely on word and mouth, and there for go out of my way to provide a great and efficient service, something i...

Read moreArrive early evening, being a Sunday it wasn’t particularly busy, server took our drinks order straight away but it took another 15 mins for them to arrive!
The chicken dish I wanted was sold out so I quickly with the server looking directly at me chose another dish.
Surly tho anything on the menu that was not available they should have told us as they handed us the menu on arrival, they are quick enough to ask about allergies!!
Anyhow I just choose the same as my friend as it was easier -the chicken, ribs and the homemade chips all very nice, but the sauce was stone cold.
Desserts, my friend ordered her favourite apple pie n ice cream, as you can see on the photos what turned up looked like a stew, the server was questioned her reply was it goes like that heated in the microwave because it’s gluten free. We never ordered GF mind, so the Apple stew was left on the table - to stew - lol. Price was £5.99 -so not cheap, but they did deduct this off our bill.
I ordered my favourite Biscoff sundae, while it looked the bees knees the taste test said differently, the biscuit and cream on top was yummy but the rest wasn’t. It was just ice cream and biscuit broken up. No biscoff sauce!!! Sooo dry. Looking at it I thought Mmmmmm😋 but such a let down…… Hard ice cream and crumbled biscuit, I even lifted the chunk of ice cream to visit the bottom but hmph 😡 no sauce !! Such a disappointment so I left the majority of it. Not cheap either, at £6.99 a pop.
Drinks -I asked for a refill with no ice, again this took 10 minutes to arrive- with ice 🤷♀️
Will we come back here?
I’d say yes as it’s a nice place and very convenient for the icc wales venue, but next time ill be asking for what’s not available on the menu and ill make sure my biscoff sundae is smothered in ...
