The Grill — Restaurant in Newport

Whilst staying at Celtic Manor, we decided to book dinner here as the menu enticed us. We were booked for 2 at 9pm and whilst there were plenty of other bookings there, service was nice but felt a little bit rushed at times which I understand if it’s near closing, however we were given 9pm as a booking so it was slightly off putting to experience. The food was good, we both went for the Sirloin Steak which was nice but we ordered Medium Rare and received more of a Medium Done / Well Done steak each. Normally it wouldn’t be an issue and it wasn’t as the meal was still lovely but for the standard of the place and the manor - we were slightly disappointed that it wasn’t exactly how we wanted. However we did have a voucher included in our stay which allocated £30 per person for dinner so that was a nice bonus. The restaurant itself is just a 10 minute walk from the manor and is very nicely decorated with large windows to view the surroundings. Overall it was a nice experience and a nice dinner, but not quite what we had expected to get from a 5* place. I would give them minus 5 stars if I could , sat at our table chose our meals and wine , wine arrived no glasses . Asked for glasses still no glasses in total asked four times finally after about 12 or 15 mins we had our glasses. I ordered Nachos as a starter a small bowl of cery average Nachos arrived plain no cheese on them a salsa sause that tasted like it came out of a well known jar and dome sour cream " not impressed ". My wife orderd the garlic mushrooms on toast , what actually came was a piece of charred black ( not exaggerated " on both sides toast covered in some mushrooms . Now im not a chef but how anyone would think that was acceptable beats me. One of our other guests chips were raw another persons food was over salted we were there for a 60th birthday celebration and the night was ruined on top of all thiis forgot to mention the foid took ages. I wasn't expecting a Michelin star meal but honestly the foods better in Tescos cafe. Its quite sad really because everything around the place is really nice but the management from the top down don't manage the place and the customers suffer you simply pay high prices for awful...

16/3 / 2022 afternoon meal . The waitresses abrupt and inattentive got our drinks wrong , and saying they were too busy to wait to take our order and that we should be quick . Unfortunately the Beef burger was overcooked and chips too dry as was the butter chicken Burger was tasteless. The starters were average. Desert - waffles poor quality and not tasty at all . Staff I’ll informed regarding shuttle services. When the shuttle driver did arrive on the third time ! the driver explained staff did not answer his calls and that’s why our wait back ti resort so long and that he was not permitted to leave the bus unattended. The grill restaurant was too noisy with a group of inebriated golfers . The Celtic main reception recommended the grill prior to booking . Our group certainly would not attend this over rated restaurant, I could not even understand one particular member of staff owing to her poor command of the English language. Worst still we were still charged 10 percent service charge for a very poor experience! I paid their bill in full and gave them honest feedback...
