We had an family breakfast here a few weeks back. Visually outside the building looks interesting and inviting. I’ve walked past a few times and it’s caught my eye. Inside somewhat rustic, nice country feel. Some of the chairs somewhat hard. Might need a few more cushions. I spent a portion of time of my breakfast a little uncomfortable.
There were about 8 of us. All with different diets and food tolerances. Initially we tried ordering things that the kitchen was yet preparing for that time of day. But they did offer to start early for us! We opted instead for the traditional cooked breakfasts in varying types. Unfortunately the service fell down slightly here. I felt breakfast took a little too long to serve, and the omissions and changes were not as requested. Not major issues. But if you ask for without tomatoes and beans. You shouldn’t need to be passing them to someone else on the table. Poached eggs slightly over cooked, hard. Considering we were one of two parties in at this time. I didn’t think the kitchen was over worked. Food was good and enjoyed regardless tho.
However they provided gluten free options flawlessly for those of us that needed, gave us free extra complimentary toast and jams to supplement our meals and were happy and friendly throughout.
Completely somewhere I would go again. Just using a different...
Read moreWent for lunch here today and had reason to return my food as there was a long black hair in it. I pointed it out to one of the staff who took the food back to the kitchen.
A few minutes later the chef/owner came out to our table and asked who had returned the food. I said it was me and told him the reason for returning it. Rather than apologising the chef said he could assure me that the food had not left his kitchen with a hair in it. I asked him to look at the 5 of us sat at the table who are all on our 60’s with light hair so it could not have come from one of us. Again he said that he hadn’t sent it to me like that and basically called me a liar, he then promptly left.
There was absolutely no reason for him to speak to me in this manner. He was very confrontational and his voice was raised. This all happened in the middle of his restaurant during a busy lunchtime service. I was very upset about being spoken to like this and will never return to this place.
I wouldn’t normally leave a negative review as I would prefer to resolve any concerns at the time but I feel the attitude of the chef leaves a lot to be desired. I was not asking for a replacement meal or compensation in any form. An apology would have...
Read moreToday was my first visit to The Green. I believe it used to be The Drovers. I went with my son on an unscheduled walk around Caerleon. The exterior doesn't look particularly inviting, I cant put my finger on the reason but I'm glad we chose to give it a chance. The interior is beautifully decorated. Clean, modern yet with country cottage charm. The Young staff were clean and smartly dressed and were smiling and pleasant throughout..The menu is uncomplicated and with just the right amount of choice. There is a breakfast menu and a lunch menu offering a lovely selection of sandwiches, toasted if required and a hot lunch selection. We had Roast beef sandwiches which were delicious. The beef was soft and tasty and there was plenty of it inside the bread. It was served with a small side salad, chips and a tiny bowl each of horseradish sauce and coleslaw. The desserts were laid out beautifully in a covered cabinet and although extremely tempting I was full from my lunch and declined. I would definitely recommend a visit and will be returning to sample the desserts and a cup of the many coffees also...
