I frequented Nikis cafe pre 2020 and always had positive experiences with fresh, top quality food plus great customer service. I would visit often for brunch with family members and always recommended Nikis to my large circle of family and friends. Recently, I visited with my mother and two children and had an awful experience. Truly left very disappointed. We were hungry after a lovely play and walk along the promenade and bypassed many other cafes to visit Nikis expecting the fare to be fresh, tasty and filling plus the hospitality to be the same excellent, friendly, warm experience we became accustomed to. I found the food to be bland (the bang, bang chicken salad was our choice for the adults), very unexciting in flavour and ingredients were just 4 plus dressing. One party did not eat their meal as they described it as poor quality catering chicken with no coating or added finesse plus it was served with a mayo, satay sauce poured over which was bland. This meal (bang bang chicken was way off my other experiences).
For the children we choose the burger and chips and sausage and chips from the children's menu which cost a whooping 7.95 each!! This is extortionate considering we ate at ORTO in Belfast and the children had a 3 course delicious fresh pizza, with starter and desert all for 7.50. The burger was grilled black and my 4 year old ate only some. We made the wait staff aware we were disappointed with the food and asked if there was a change of ownership. The response was "I have only worked here since the beginning of the summer". We understand that with inflation and rising costs the hospitality industry are experiencing difficult choices, however increasing prices and significantly reducing quality and hiring staff who aren't passionate and skilled means losing out on custom.

Read moreHad to leave the Cafe today at approximately 11:25 as other patrons stood within one metre, and staff also seemed oblivious to social distancing. As a frontline healthcare professional having to leave under these circumstances was more than disappointing. We cancelled our foreign holiday this year with a sense of duty as both my wife and I are frontline workers. We thought stay at home and give support to local towns. We walked along the beach in Newcastle then went for a coffee and ice cream. Obviously this was unsuccessful and as we walked along the promenade social distancing was nonexistent, we stayed a further 20-25 minutes in Newcastle, minus coffee or ice cream.
PS, letting customers talk around a perspex screen to staff without correcting those customers really defeats the...
Read moreI used to frequent this cafe often. It is a nice place; it is clean and the food is good ... but ... it is now very overpriced. As with most businesses prices have been hiked up in the last couple of years, despite business VAT reducing to 5% in 2020 and 12.5% in 2021 and remaining low until April 2022. Despite this saving to businesses, prices have risen and are continuing to be hiked up. Savings are not being passed on to customers. Niki's now charge for replacement items in breakfasts which they didn't do before and it is just not worth the £7.70 price tag for scrambled eggs with toast and a cup of tea. Eating out is a luxury for most people ... Scrambled eggs are...
