There is absolutely nothing authentic about the food served at the Ganges. We were seated near the kitchen door and observed a young man taking poppadoms from packets. He did the same with the naan bread. We ordered a Lamb Madras, Chicken Madras and Lamb Vindaloo, all 3 were absolutely disgusting and better resembled Lamb and Chicken Stew cooked in Bisto gravy. We travel the country working and we've had some fantastic Indians, some average and some very poor Indians, as my colleague Gary put it, this was by far the very worst.....

12/07/21 I see your reply and thought it worth putting the record straight as I believe you have us mixed up with other unsatisfied customers. None of us are "Builders" or have ever worked in anything remotely resembling the building industry. No where in my review or speaking to your staff did we state that "madras and vindaloo", were the only Indian food we ate, far from it. We originally asked for two other dishes from your menu but you didn't have them or the ingredient available so we decided on basic dishes wrongly thinking the you couldn't mess that up. At no point have I been aggressive in my review, just honest so why you talk about being a "keyboard warrior" I don't know? Unless you just don't like honest reviews? Scrolling through the reviews there seems to be enough people agreeing with our experiences. You are not and do not cook authentic Indian food, im sorry that just wasn't our experience with you and last but not least, just to confirm that you have us mixed up, we sent our plates back full and went for a lovely Fish...

Exceptional Takeaway Experience at The Ganges Indian Restaurant in Barnstaple!

I recently had the pleasure of ordering a takeaway from The Ganges Indian Restaurant in Barnstaple, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional! The flavors of the food were absolutely delicious, and the consistent quality truly stood out, making it an excellent option for those craving top-notch Indian cuisine at home.

The diverse range of dishes caters to all tastes, offering options for those who enjoy their curries mild or spicy. The convenience of a takeaway didn't compromise the authenticity and richness of the flavors—each dish was a true delight.

Whether you're a regular or trying The Ganges for the first time, the takeaway service ensures that you can enjoy the same fantastic culinary experience in the comfort of your own home. Kudos to the chefs and staff for maintaining such high standards even with takeaway orders!

For anyone in Barnstaple craving a flavorful Indian meal to-go, I highly recommend The Ganges. It's a takeaway experience that will leave your taste buds...

Another fantastic meal at The Ganges. We dine here frequently. Everything that comes out of the Ganges kitchen is excellent. The cuisine is delicately spiced and wonderfully authentic, and there is a very good selection of traditional meat and vegetarian dishes as well as authentic street food and home style cooking. We love it. The staff are always friendly and professional and the ambience is very relaxed. On to the food, we usually start with popadums and chutneys which are fragrant and freshly prepared. The pakoras are deliciously light and crispy. We usually order a vegetarian and a fish dish for our main course. The Calcutta Prawn Curry is incredible as is the Paneer Makhani, which is a soft cheese dish in a delightful, light and creamy sauce. Sometimes we order from the tandoor, and a wonderful, fragrant sizzling dish is bought to the table. Naan breads come out warm and fluffy, butter naan is our favourite. Mango Lassi is a must. Thanks to Sid Merle and the team. We’ll...

Nice little restaurant with good quality food. We were quite pleased that we got a reservation of our table within 30mins of our call. Ordered daal vada as starters and paneer makhani and saag aloo with naans as mains. Liked the crunch of daal vada though did feel as if it lacked few more tastes of ginger and chilli which we normally find in India. Paneer was nice and soft like a pillow. Liked saag aloo but could have done with bit of less garlic. Overall good food with warm staff which makes the experience of eating out memorable.

Arguably the best in the South West!! A bunch of mates and myself have setup a curry club. We go out for an Indian at least once a month, quite often more than that and I was sitting in The Ganges counting up all the places I’ve been. I counted 29 Indians in the South West and I think this one is the best of the all. Only problem is, this one is 1 1/2 hours drive from home. So it’s only for if I happen to be staying away in the area. I have to recommend the Jungle Curry, 3 Sisters side and Lemon Rice. Yum.

Not a local and in the area on business so eating alone. Staff friendly and helpful with ordering. I was fascinated by the idea of stilton nan but couldn't order that much for one. I had chicken that was not to hot and a little sweet, taka Dahl, rice and popadoms. All very good and very tasty. I would agree that tha mango chutney was like sweet gloop but the rest was very tasty. I came on on the strength of Google reviews and there was a steady stream of takeaways and eat in.
