I don’t usually leave reviews but feel I need to in order to save anyone else having the same awful food we had. I am just shocked that food was allowed to leave the kitchen in the state we got it. Firstly ordered the veggie meatballs with melted cheese and it was literally a undercooked vegeterian burger patty cut into four pieces with a slice of unmelted American cheese slapped on top, I couldn’t actually believe they had passed this off as meatballs. When I complained the lovely chap at the bar immediately took it away and said he would remove it from the bill. I then had the mushroom and ale pie Sunday roast which has the most thick, lumpy, old looking gravy I have ever seen, it wouldn’t physically pour and was stuck inside the small bowl it came in and tasted so weird, again I flagged this and they brought over a slightly less thick lumpy gravy. The vegetables were clearly frozen and undercooked with no seasoning & the portion was crazy bad, one piece of brocolli, one piece of cauliflower, 3 tiny rock hard roast potato’s, a bit of stuffing & a very stale pie…we arrived at 4.30 and were told kitchen was closed until 5.30 so by the time we got our food around 6.30 we were starving and reluctantly ate what we could as kids were tired and it was too late to go elsewhere. My sons meal was really poor so I didn’t let him eat it as he is only 2 and I was worried about the bad quality making him unwell. The staff were very lovely and gave us money off the bill so ended up paying around £20 but to be honest even that was too much considering how bad the meal was & I regret eating any of it as I feel super nauseous now and just don’t understand how such a simple meal could go that wrong in a professional kitchen. I have attached a photo of my main meal for reference but unfortunately didn’t get a picture of my starter before it was taken away. Staff are lovely and were very apologetic which we appreciated but food was extremely poor and one of the worst I have had so not sure if it was an off day but in circumstances like that I wouldn’t serve that food to paying...
Read moreDisapointed... Visited here as a family group of six to remember my mother in law as this was one of her favourite places. The was the 2nd time we visited here and were told they were short staffed and there would be a wait. Absolutley no problem, happens and that is life totally get that.
3 people ordered steaks and asked to have medium rare, arrived and these were more like boardering well done. Asked if we could have the steaks redone, told no as there is no more steaks. Told desserts and coffee would be free of charge. Asked if we could have replaced with Hunter's Chicken instead, yes that is fine and we had no problem with a wait. This did not arrive, so three people basically had chips and veg as main. Ordering desserts and we were told now that only the affected meals would be free desserts and the kitchen did not do the replacment mains as they couldn't.. So basically came to have chips, veg and cheesecake.
However the table near us ordered steak and hunters chicken when we was told there was no more steaks. Kitchen were basically calling the shots and leaving it to 2 young waitresess to front the customers that I may add were lovely and polite and we had no problem with them at all. They should be commended for handling the situation the way they did. The manager should have came to the table to explain and manage the situation sooner as managing is the job! and this could have been sorted saving our evening to remember why we was there. The bill upon a short discussion was wiped off. Kitchen were clearly calling the shots this evening and leaving it to 2 waitresess to front out all the customers. Food that did arrive was average at best this time, pie bottom was soggy. Probably won't...
Read moreNice looking large pub from outside. You would expect from the lovely building and lovely big garden the usual Greene King Quality however the decor was clearly in need of refurbishment. Food was good overall especially the steak. However the salad accompanying various meals and starters looked fairly wilted and as if it had been out of the fridge for some time or possibly not as fresh as it should have been. Very good quality cask ale and drinks including Abbott Ale and GK IPA very nicely pulled and kept. Womens toilets according to my wife were rather unkept with blockages and not the levels of cleaning or upkeep you would expect from a big pub company. Bar area was busy but rather cramped as various big tables had been placed in front of the bar for a group of rowdy guys to watch the football from meaning you could only get to the bar easily from either end. We sat in the restaurant but there was very little customer service or welcome from staff. 3 male staff members were hanging around the bar for the most part watching the football and chatting with football loving locals instead. We ordered from the bar in the end as there was no restaurant service to speak of. Food was reasonably well cooked and served promptly and other than that service mediocre. Overall a potentially lovely pub but for a Saturday evening fairly quiet and obviously being let down overtime by what seems very relaxed and I bothered staff. Certainly not crying out for a further visit unless a recent manager is appointed who cracks the whip with the young 20 something staff members. Definitely missing a...
