Zizzi - Hitchin — Restaurant in North Hertfordshire

I love Zizzis restaurant as they serve really good food at decent prices. Because they cook from scratch, it's usually possible to have things taken out or swapped with meals, which is great if you have an intolerance or dislike of certain foods.

My husband, daughter, and I all have food intolerances, I have loads of things that I can't eat, but for the rest of my family, it's dairy intolerance. Every time I've been to a zizzis, they have been able to omit certain ingredients and swap for something else.

We went to Hitchin Zizzis on Father's Day (2023). We actually walked in off the street but there was a table available, they did say that we'd need to be gone by a certain time but there was no pressure or hassling us to get us to go which was good of them.

I had the zuca salad with an added chicken skewer, which I had the goats cheese taken out, and they agreed to add olives in its place. I don't know if it's supposed to be (I'm sure in the past I've had it warm), but the courgette slices were cold and un cooked. The chicken skewer was also not very hot. It was just warm. But it all tasted delicious and I didn't complain as it wasn't a problem, I just expected it to be hotter. Of anything with a 3 year old, it worked out better, as we could get eating straight away!.

The portion size was really good, and it was presented beautifully. My daughter ate off the kids' menu, and the portions were really good. The only thing that might be an issue is the drink woth the menu was served in a cup. Luckily, my little didn't spills, but we had to keep checking on her with it as we had been expecting a bottle (like a fruit shoot).

We had the vegan zillionaire's cake, and oh my word, it was amazing. It was so good. it's well worth a try end if you're not vegan.

Service was a little slow, but it was getting busy by the minute, and it was fathers Day, so lots of people were eating out. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and it was just a really good experience.

We've been to this zizzis a few times, and we've always enjoyed the food and had a good experience.

I highly recommend this place, I've always had a good experience in all the zizzis I've been to, but this is our current local one and it's our favourite...

First off I'd like it say that our waitress was lovely. With 5he exception of the king prawn starter, the food on the whole was pretty bland and I could have cooked it better myself. I had the spaghetti Pomodoro, which consisted of spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, a handful of halved, sweet fresh tomatoes, two basil leaves, no seasoning of any description and then a couple of slices of mozzarella straight out of the fridge! We had the three course gift menu, if this is meant to be an introduction to what else they provide, well then I'm sorry, but they lost me there. I was disappointed with the cheesecake for desert as it was very heavy and synthetic tasting, the pistatios were soft. The only thing that lifted it was the whipped mascapone, of which there was about a half desert spoonful. When it came to paying, the bill was presented (eventually by another waitress as ours was kept very busy, whilst others were wandering around, bussing a table here and there). However, it was presented with all the meal costs included even though we had booked the table using our gift card, and also shown the gift number to our waitress at the start of the meal. I queried it, the waitress went away and came back twice, saying it was correct. Eventually, she talked me through it and I agreed with her, up to the point of having to pay for the gifted meals. Only then did she say, oh well then we take that amount off! All the while this had been going on, she had the hand held card payment device in her hand! I was a waitress for many years, but with the exception of our initial waitress, I was left very disappointed overall. I did leave a small tip, but that was for her, thanks to the food and the waitress at the end, I was close to leaving...

Terrible service.. manager and waitress lack customer service skills. I tried to use birthday voucher sent to me by Zizzi's and they really did not want to me to use it. I got told by the waitress that it wasn't a typical voucher used and she would have to get manager's approval for us to use it. IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY!! Voucher code was given to manager to apply free main on our bill but for some reason the she kept selecting the wrong button on their system and voucher wasn't going through. I ask her to look at other options on system and she said they are all the same and voucher isn't working and there wasn't anything she could do about it. She also suggested that I used the voucher already and that's why it wasn't working!! Mind you have not been in years! In the end the manager figured out that she was selecting wrong voucher option on system. (only because I said to try the other option). She begrudgingly selected other option. The voucher code went through ok on this option. There was no apology by manager and waitress at this point. The bill was then handed after 20-25min of this back and forth game. I did not want to give any of my money to this establishment after this experience but paid the remaining bill but went home fuming!! I have written in to main office about this experience but still no reply going on two...
