Visited for a nice meal on holiday on 10th August but was extremely disappointed with both staff and food! I don’t mind paying a bit more if it’s worth it but this definitely did NOT meet the standards expected for such high prices - better food and service at Morrisons cafe. Ordered the seafood platter to share and was very disappointed when it arrived and it has all been over cooked to the point where chewing on rubber would’ve been more pleasant! The pickled cockles which were supposedly fresh - had better out of a jar before! Completely tasteless. The oysters were tiny for the price and full of shell which completely ruined them. We also had ordered a surf and turf that was charred to death! Ruined the taste of the steak completely - some is okay but this is next level. The ‘surf’ was basically non existent aswell - the tiniest piece of lobster and even missing the claw which is the best bit! Then the crab linguine - had better ready meals - no crab at all to be seen and very dry and gritty pasta sauce. The last cherry on the cake was when we asked for another slice of bread which took at least 20 minutes to come out for it to be toast that was burnt to smitherines!! They even tried to hide the fact it was burnt by putting it the burnt side face down!!! No one came to check that everything was okay with the meal despite an abundance of staff being present and even standing around the bar area next to where we were seated. We eventually had to pull someone over to say how bad the food has been for us to only be met with rude and totally unapologetic staff! The lady with the tattoos and sunglasses around her chin even started arguing back with us then cornered my mum to have another go when we were leaving and she was on her own - saying if it was that bad we shouldve gone to the bar to complain about the issues we had with the food!! The drinks were fine thanks
Didn’t expect any money off of it just wanted an apology and to make them aware of the situation. Very defensive staff, you can bet the 10% discretionary service charge...
Read moreI think this was the most disappointed I’ve been with a restaurant I had such high expectations about. Pricing aside which if the food and service is good I don’t mind paying a premium but I thought £6.90 for a Peroni and £11.50 for a starter with one bites worth of lobster on it and a ball of burrata was a bit steep, this however was not the part I would even complain about on any other day. It was the fact I sent back a meal as the cravettes were very over done, to the point it was hard to even de-shell them. They took the food back no problem, offered another meal which I didn’t want and thought all as well. Came to pay for the bill and it was still on the bill, to which when i pointed it out she said “it was defo off it just said it on the receipt, but it is off as she’s taken it off the system” I then added up and pointed out it wasn’t so she said sorry and sorted it……by taking off £15 service charge for a meal that cost £21 and when I pointed that out she said “oh I can’t take off food so I’ve just taken off the service charge if that’s ok which by all rights isn’t. I said no it’s not so she said she had to get her manager so he came asked problem I explained and he then said “I’ll take the drinks off is that ok” I said I don’t know does that add up to the price of the meal which it didn’t and I said well no then and he asked me “did you eat anything off the plate” (implying that’s why the full amount wasn’t coming off the bill) which obviously I did to know it was over cooked so I said only what I tried to realise it was over cooked (two cravettes out of ten). Awful customer service to be made to feel like I was trying to get a free meal. Also why would food being sent back not be to the cost of the restaurant and rather to the waitress/waiters serving by the service charge being removed. Clearly the service charge does not go to the staff which is...
Read moreIf you love crab and/or lobster, you simply have to visit Rocky Bottoms.
It's a family run restaurant where the crab and lobster is caught, by a father and son duo while mum dresses and prepares the fresh catch for the restaurants patrons.
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and super friendly. Staff are lovely and attentive and make you feel welcome and instantly relaxed
Then there's the decor. There's a real "surf shack" vibe going on outside but inside, it's a mix of quirky but really well thought out style. It was the bathrooms that really brought home how much care and attention had gone in to the design and style of every aspect of Rocky Bottoms.
So, before I had eaten anything, I was loving the place.
But then the food arrived. The crab poke bowl came with a whole crab shell, overstuffed with perfect and fresh white and brown crab meat, sat on top of generous portions of hummus, avocado, giant cous cous, beetroot and cucumber, carrot, leaves and dressings. The crab pappardelle was also generous, delicious and the pasta perfectly cooked.
I loved my visit to Rocky Bottoms and I would do the drive from Yorkshire again just to come here. The short journey from sea to plate really shows in the quality of the food and the general passion shown by the family and staff makes for a really heartwarming place. I loved it. Thank you to the owners and their crew for creating such a...
