My wife, daughter and I have been visiting for years when holidaying and have enjoyed the evolution of this delightful place, so we popped in for coffee on 03/11 - it was fabulous and the sandwiches looked great. So on 04/11 we stopped again for bacon/ sausage sandwiches. The food quality was great but the service was woeful. There was only us and a table of 4, who received their breakfasts over a 10 minute period. We waited 25 minutes for our sandwiches, which is not ordinarily an issue but there were at least 3 staff in and the table of 4 (only other guests got their 1st breakfast as we arrived). Just as the first sandwich was due to arrive I requested they be wrapped for takeaway as we couldn’t afford the time. I waited nearly 5 mins for all 3 sandwiches to be wrapped and was handed them without the offer of a bag and not one word of apology for the time taken. Food great; location lovely, service dreadful....
Read moreWas really looking forward to visiting this place. We did walk in about 4.10pm but it did say now open till 5pm Mon-Sat. Asked to look at menu and was informed only tea and cake, nothing hot as ovens are off. Not a smile of welcome. I said I'd order a cream tea If they have clotted cream. She said yes so we sat down. I then asked if we could have something cold like quiche or baguette and she said we could have quiche but no sandwich as no bread. I said I'd have quiche and cream tea. I went to loo and hubby just ordered quiche so I went to let the girl know that I also wanted a cream tea. She just said we are closing at 4.30 but I'll get it. I didn't mention the 5pm sign on door. She just wasn't welcoming. Well I was still eating and drinking my tea at 4.30 and fortunately wasn't asked to leave. I think we left about 10 mins later. I must add the scone was huge and delicious just a shame about the reception...
Read moreI went to the galley for the first time about a month ago on spec with my wife, it was busy but we got seated and everything from the food to the service was excellent. I decided to book for my next visit which was last Friday the 23rd. I booked for 1300 but we got there at 1233 ( I looked at my phone) and our seat was free as were most seats as only two tables were occupied. We got our order taken at 1250, by a waitress who refered to us a " you guys" ( a guy sits on top of a bonfire , customers are Sir and madam) and our soup and cheese scones arrived at 1310. I made a point of noticing the time as there were four staff on that i could see and only 6 customers in total. The soup and scones were fine, but being in the hospitality trade myself I couldn't understand the delay. Most disappointing after my previous visit, ...
