Ahar Indian & Bangladeshi cuisine — Restaurant in North Tyneside

The food was ok. Ordered a bottle of fizz and starters for two and just some pappadoms as we were not very hungry. The waiter made a funny face and left even I wasn't finished talking to him. Other staff came back with our drinks and the waiter who was rude came back to clear some plates. I told him that we would like some more pappadoms and he was snappy to me saying 'will give u" and he left. It was very unpleasant experience there. I cant comment on the restaurant food but it was a full house the evening I went. Takeway Lamb Madras was a sea of gravy with the odd piece of meat. The water separated from the sauce after a few minutes on the plate - very disappointing meal Chicken Tikka Masala, again a sea of sauce with very little meat. The meat had not been marinated, instead a smoky spice had been added to the sauce. Bizarre! Chilli Lamb Zal Fry - this was actually good Chicken Dansak - again good. If I had been given the Lamb Madras at the table it would have gone back. Guys - you need to better quality control the food going out as takeway if you want to build...

I’ve loved Bangladeshi food for most of my life. I grew up on it, I’ve tried so many places and never had such a consistent and wonderful experience as I have going to Ahar. Fiz the owner is a superb host and the restaurant is a warm and welcoming place, for solo visits or with friends and family. I’ve never had a meal that wasn’t brilliant here but tonight I think I reached Valhalla. The lamb mustard bhuna might just be the best curry I’ve ever eaten.
