When it comes to culinary masterpieces, few dishes can match the allure and satisfaction of a well-prepared lamb curry. Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing what can only be described as the pinnacle of this classic dish, and it left an indelible mark on my taste buds.
From the moment the dish arrived, its aromatic promise was undeniable. The rich, savory scent of spices wafted through the air, instantly awakening my senses and building anticipation. The presentation was equally inviting: tender chunks of lamb bathed in a vibrant, velvety sauce, garnished with fresh cilantro and accompanied by a side of fluffy pilau rice.
The first bite was nothing short of revelatory. The lamb was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth. It was clear that it had been slow-cooked to perfection, allowing the flavors to penetrate deeply into the meat. The curry sauce was a symphony of spices, expertly balanced to create a harmonious blend of heat, sweetness, and earthiness. Each spoonful revealed layers of complexity, with hints of cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala dancing together in perfect harmony.
What truly set this lamb curry apart was its depth of flavor. The chefs had evidently taken great care in crafting a sauce that was both robust and nuanced. The inclusion of caramelized onions and garlic provided a rich base, while a touch of yogurt added creaminess without overwhelming the spice. A subtle hint of tomato lent a slight tang, cutting through the richness and ensuring each bite was as refreshing as it was indulgent.
Paired with the perfectly cooked pilau rice, each mouthful was a delightful journey. The rice absorbed the curry's essence, providing a wonderful textural contrast to the succulent lamb.
In conclusion, this lamb curry was an exquisite delight, a true testament to the art of Indian cuisine. It's a dish that beckons you back, promising a dining experience that is both comforting and exhilarating. Whether you are a curry aficionado or a newcomer, this lamb curry is a must-try, offering a flavorful escape that lingers long after...
Read moreI’d drive to Whitley Bay JUST for another experience in Zamorins 🔥🔥 it was that good.
We were recommended by friends to give this Kerala-specialised Indian Cuisine a try - they describe it as the most authentic it can get to the actual Kerala experience (I’ve travelled to Kerala before, and loved every bit of my experience there. The food is heavenly). Since we were already in Whitley Bay for a walk to get Baby Ru some fresh sea air, we thought, why not Zamorins.
Our friends were right.
The very first sides served along with the papadoms blew us away! Extremely rich and spicy, like none I’ve had before - the chef recommended ‘Kerala Fish Pickle’ and ‘Pineapple Pickle’ were out of the world. If you like spicy, tangy sour and you like fish, you MUST have this.
The Zamorins Vegetable Briyani was a first for us - generous with condiments, standing out because of the nuts. Loved it. We also had the Goan Monk Fish Curry - I thought it’d be more coconut milk based as I remember in Kerala, but still, pleasant to the tongue. This was also accompanied by the Malai Methi Mushroom Methi, and 2 mocktails - the Virgin Alphonso and the Malabar Mind.
The founders of Zamorins, Nebu & Viju, have been friends since their days in Kerala as students, all the way to Geordieland. Nearly 20 good years later, they start up Zamorins - and have been serving loyal patrons - some which travel regularly from Newcastle for their Keralan delights in Whitley Bay.
Definitely recommended - especially if you want to experience authentic Indian cusine...
Read moreHaving been away working for the best part of two weeks, it was time for a treat so Dad and I decided to head down and indulge ourselves with a fabulous curry. We were not disappointed!
Not having been in for months the owner greeted us as old friends and took us to a great seat where the waiting staff treated us with the same level of respect as the rest of the customers.
Our drinks, dad opted for the house red and had he not been driving, he'd have happily had a couple more glasses, I tried their new IPA called Malabar which is a smooth blonde 4.3% ale that is delicious and perfectly compliments a hotter curry.
Food, dad went for his favourite Lamb Rogan and I decided to try their Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, dad cleared his plate and I struggled for the first time in ages to get anywhere near finished, I was served with a powerful summer weight onion and tomato based sauce with lots of chunks of sweet peppers and huge pieces of succulent, perfectly spiced chicken breast, complimented by the rice which I just couldn't find a big enough gap to polish off my plate!
Yes they are a little more expensive than the average but the price difference but it...
