What a find, for a midweek special. After some teething problems trying to book a table online i decided to ring and confirm availability and I’m so glad I did. Probably the best 2 course meals we have ever had for quantity and quality and a lovely bottle of wine too, each of which was around £20 mark. £63 ish total. Mussels starter, I opted for the white wine sauce which could perhaps have had a little more cream and less garlic to it but the size and number of mussels on the plate it was like a main meal! And I’m quite a big eater. The bruschetta starter was huge and tasty too. Lasagne was huge with plenty of sauce and Parmesan, the seafood risotto was on a large plate that was completely filled and had more of those lovely mussels and prawns too. I managed to eat the lot somehow, half of the lasagne was carried home for tomorrow. Wasn’t too busy at 8pm on a Thursday, which is surprising if the food and quantities are normally like this. You pay a premium on some courses for the 2 course special ( £15.95 ) but they were worth it and it was still cheaper than ordering from the regular menu. Apparently they do Sunday dinners too so might give those a whirl ( need to pre book for peak times apparently) There are no windows which makes it quite dark but that wasn’t a problem really. They have plenty of long marble tables / booths for 6 if you are in a group, and some smaller tables too. Highly recommended for those who like a value for money decent sized portion of quality food, which seem quite rare these days.

To the establishment owners, I'm writing to express my disappointment with my recent visit. The overpowering smell of fresh paint was quite off-putting, and the noise from the construction work, with workers drilling right next to us, was very disruptive. I actually felt unwell from the paint fumes afterwards. It really would have been better to close during the refurbishment - it felt like a lack of common sense and just pure greed on the owners' part. The service was average at best, and the older gentleman serving us wasn't particularly friendly. The food was decent, and the visit would have been fine if not for these other issues.

Where do i start this review. The resterant is located behind the kittiwake pub whitely bay.

Inside it is laid out on wooden tables and lit lovely, not too dim not to see the food and not to bight to ruin an atmosphere. The kitchen is in full veiw at the rear with the pizza oven in the background. There's pleasant music in the background. The main thing i noticed was the warm welcome we recieved and was carried out throught my esperience. The staff and team are amazing.

I chose an off the menu starter. Deep fried calzone. This is not for the faint hearted but the flavour is amazing. The dough base it crisp on the outside not too doughy in the middle with a mozzerella pepperoni centre. The acompanying sauce is fantastic and ties the starter together a rough chopped tomato sauce seasoned perfectly combined with the fresh basil on the top was out of this world. 10 out of 10 for this

My main was meatballs, i swapped my pasta to a ribbon type i feel it is better with the slightly spicy tomato sauce. The meatballs were flavoured lovely with parsley and contain enough crumb to make them palletable not fatty. The balls were a substntial size. Cooked until they just start to catch on the pan. Again cannot fault this bowl of perfection

I carried a tomato garlic bread starter to acompany my main. This was lovely. The fresh chillies were a little hard but that was to be expected.

Then puddings. Sticky toffee pudding is to die for. Hot pud with a warm toffee sauce and italian vanilla ice cream. Pure bliss.

Washed down with a house red wine. A merlot not heavy like most and had tjat lovely fruity undertone.

The price was totally mindblowing cheap for the quality. Perfect staff in a nice environment well done.

I am going...

Complex menu - you will need to study it for a while before working out what to order. Classic italian dishes tend to be overly embellished with unnecessary add on ingredients and flavours but are overall executed to a high standard. Just not great if you are with a fussy eater who likes their pepperoni pizza to be just that, and not have 3-4 other ingredients. I ordered a chicken pizza which was once I removed the indifferent pieces of chicken was easily one of the most delicious cheese, mushroom and garlic pizzas I have ever had. My husband had a very tasty lasagna, note - you may need to order a side as this doesn't come with anything else. I had cheesecake for dessert which didn't actually contain any cream cheese, just some alternative filling which was okay. Is the italian cheesecake version...
