Visiting friends in Whitley Bay and felt a bit hungry while out and decided to try this place; Relish. Sat down and handed grubby menus that were creased A4 sheets of paper badly stained with food/drink. I felt we should have left then but didn't want to embarrass our friends. Ordered drinks and food at the same time and the drinks came in a reasonable time but my wife's cold drink was warm and lacking ice. I ordered loaded chips with bolognese sauce and cheese and my wife a Greek feta salad. I was extremely disappointed when they arrived. The loaded chips meal looked like it had been under a heater or in the oven for far too long and looked dry. It looked like it had been made before I had ordered. The bolognese sauce/cheese had welded itself to the side of the bowl it was served in. There was no evidence of any tomato base a bolognese should have, just dried out, flavourless mince and cheese on dried out chips which had become a congealed mass. It was disgusting and I made the proprietor aware. My wife's salad was equally unimpressive. Bland, shredded wet lettuce with no dressing and a few crumbs of feta and not one shred of an olive! Flavourless and no texture. Not enough cutlery on the table so we were brought more from another table and food was found on a fork. Meals were served in cereal bowls and £9.50 is just too much for the amount of food served! While we we're sat we noticed two sets of customers who had their orders confused twice! Food not even worth a star. Underwhelming, lacklustre, disgusting. Gordon Ramsey would have a...
Read moreRelish Coffee is an absolute gem if you're serious about your coffee. They roast their own beans and you can tell from the first sip that this is something special. The flavour is bold, smooth and so much better than what you'll find in most high street chains. It's honestly the kind of coffee that makes you stop and appreciate the craft behind it.
What I really like about Relish is the atmosphere. The owners are lovely - very friendly, always with a smile and clearly passionate about what they do. It's the kind of place where you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. They've also recently opened a little shop next door selling coffee paraphernalia and other bits and pieces, which is a nice touch. It's perfect if you want to up your coffee game at home.
If you're heading to the beach, I'd recommend grabbing a coffee here first. It's a short walk down to the coast, and there's something about sipping a good coffee while watching the waves that's...
Read moreWe had a great experience taking the Roasting and Barista course at Relish. As a self-confessed coffee geek I was in heaven! Polat did an amazing job designing the day around my interests and provided a real bespoke behind the scenes experience at the Roastery. I got a hands on experience learning about the roasting process and then trying it out, from pouring in the green beans to adjusting the roast parameters along the way, and then releasing the fresh beans, cooling then bagging and tagging my own roasts. Polar explained the process in an engaging and patient way, sharing his evident enthusiasm for all things coffee. After a delicious lunch I got to play with his extensive range of coffee equipment and learnt more about the brewing process, and the experience ended with a yummy authentic Turkish coffee. It was an amazing day and I loved it all....
