Shikara — Restaurant in North Tyneside

Many thanks go to Az and his team for making us feel so welcome. It is clear that the overall dining experience and the quality of the food served are a passion for them all. I have never been to an Indian restaurant quite as special as Shikara in Whitley Bay.

The service was excellent, first class. The quality of the food was certainly amongst the best I have ever experienced at an Indian restaurant - flavoursome and good sized portions too.

Not being from the area, I chose Shikara based on previous reviews from other diners, and was not disappointed with my choice. Based on my experience, every good review Shikara has received is completely genuine.

The only downside? I don't live local to Whitley Bay (I was on a short break with my wife) - and so will not have the chance to eat at Shikara again until I am next in the Whitley Bay area. But rest assured, we will eat there again at the next...

Went on a quiet Wednesday night, can’t fault the food at all it was absolutely delicious and served promptly. Was looking forward to trying the cocktails but was informed that the upstairs bar was closed so I was unable to have any cocktails which was a shame. The service however put a damper on evening. I ordered the Aloo Chaat for my starter (one of my favourites) and a Lamb Balti (another favourite) for my main and was asked if I was sure I wanted that as the server said I had chosen one of the blandest starters (his words) in contrast with my main and then laughed at my choice. Ate here last night. Booked for 7.30 but had to wait till 7 45 for table. No problem but would have nice to have the opportunity to buy a drink while we were waiting but they were so busy you couldn't get anyones attention. Orderd food and a drink each. My curry arrived minus the rice. Had to wait 10 minutes for rice. No problem I shared my husband's rice while I waited. Finished my drink but couldn't get the attention of a waiter to order another. Finished food and waited to be offered dessert menu. While waiting for the dessert menu a waiter came and gave us the end of meal little shot drink!
