A taste of little Italy in Whitley Bay. This place is just amazing. Easily one of the best Italians I have ever visited. At first glance you might not recognise some of the items in the menu. Go with it, the staff are super knowledgeable about their food, and will keep you right. Don't worry, they do the most amazing pizzas if that is what you are looking for, proper thin crust stone baked. I had the - malloreddus di spigola. (Small pasta shells with shredded sea bass, anchovies, olives, and cherry tomatoes). Truly delicious! The carbonara is something like you have never had before! Unless of course you have been to a small village in the south of Italy. Ask the staff about the meat in it, pigs cheek, I couldn't do it justice trying to describe how they cook it. Pick any pizza topping you like, and you will enjoy it. It is a small restaurant so book, it is bustling with atmosphere and that and the decor - you could be sitting in the Mediterranean! The ingredients are sourced from Italy and you can tell! Even the drinks are what you would get over there. I can't recommend this place highly enough. A wonderful experience

Really amazing authentic Italian food. Me and my friend dropped in for lunch on wednesday about 1ish and were seated easily, although there was still a lively buzz of people inside. I had been eyeing up the place online and noticed they have specials covering lots of regional pasta dishes from Italy, instead of the usual fare - the same old dishes done everywhere else - and I had high hopes. Saying that, we both had the carbonara which was divine. Cooked without cream. The crispy guanciale, with its fat forming a silky sauce with the pecorino and egg. We had one of the special focaccias to start with fior di latte, artichokes and sausage with a truffle oil which was amazing and a perfect size for 2. We were too full for dessert but everything in the fridge looked amazing. I will be back!

Very overdue review. Pranzo is an Italian neighborhood style restaurant just a few minutes walk from Whitley bay metro station. It was a busy Friday evening, but the lovely staff managed to accommodate us at a window table overlooking the outdoor area. It was so nice, I would specifically book it again! We had polenta and burrata to start, followed by sage and walnut risotto and a pizza from the specials menu. Great selection of Italian wines, the friuli was delicious. We finished our wine in the garden - with nice warm blankets to keep out the chill. A deli has opened just over the road which I'll be trying very soon. Would absolutely recommend as one of the nicest places to eat on the North Tyneside coast.

Bit of a mixed one.

We had a booking for two on a Friday night. Lovely buzz about the place, service was amazing, all staff very friendly.

Probably about 20 minutes after ordering, we were informed that because of some technical issue, our check hadn’t gone to the kitchen so there would be a delay with our food, they assured they would make an effort to get it out quick because of this.

We waited for a while longer and shared starter came, we enjoyed it and then began our wait for the mains. For a simple pasta and pizza it took absolutely ages, around 45 minutes. Quite annoying as another two covers next to us who arrived later had three courses and left before we even had our mains.

There was no offer of a complimentary dessert or drinks despite us having to wait so long on account of a restaurant error. Frankly the pizza was great but the pasta was just okay, fairly bland. Certainly not worth the price which is on the high side. Sadly we left feeling a bit deflated given all the great things we’d heard about this place.

All in all, an okay experience. Likely won’t be returning though, pity as we’re both lovers of authentic...

I would give them 6 stars if I could. This place serves the most authentic Italian food that I have had outside of Italy. In fact, it's better than some of the food I had in some of the more touristy parts of Italy.

It is also the most family friendly restaurant that I have been to ever. The waitress knelt down next to our 3 year old and read out her menus options to her. She then asked us if we would like hers brought out straight away, as we all know how impatient kids are. When our daughter decided that she didn't infact like the pasta she ordered they swapped it free of charge. On top of all this the kids dishes are only 3-4 quid each. It is so refreshing to see a place that views children as loss leaders rather than a source of revenue.

I met the owners at their sister operation across the street and this is a proper family run business, which is so rare these days. We will be repeat visitors on our regular visits to the area. I cannot recommend this place...
