I have lived next to this pub my entire life, it is one of my favourite places, but the food and service quality has been decreasing lately.
I ordered sausages and mash with no gravy or peas. It arrived with gravy (in a separete dish) and mushy peas which were really hard to get off the plate.
The mash was also really not good, usually they use instant mash which is plain but edible, this mash was sticky, yellow, and not just plain but also had a strange flavour, I didn't eat any of it.
I had also ordered bread and butter, the bread was hard when it arrived (it usually is anyway) but when I picked it up I saw that the plate was actually dirty with some sort of tea stain.
When we left they saw that I had eaten very little and asked if the meal was okay, when I explained they gave me a full cash refund and were very kind and apologetic. It is worth noting that my partner's meal (burger and chips) was fine and came exactly as he requested.
It is still a good pub to go to for drinks and the desserts are good. I hope they try to fix these problems as I'd like to go there again, but don't think I'll be eating there...
Read moreThe bar woman wasn't very friendly. The cups were dirty when making our own tea and coffee. Had to stir with a fork. Milk was in a 4 pinter that was passed over the bar when asked where the milk was. The food was tasteless. The sizzling skillet breakfast was basically a plate of fat. Sausages were soggy, the 'hashbrowns' were tiny grease soaked bullets filled with very little potato, bacon wasn't great either. Mushroom eggs and beans were edible...oh and the toast. Table and menus were dirty and sticky. When asked how the food was, i made the supervisor aware that it wasn't nice (i had left a lot of it) and instead of apologising and offering a refund, she agreed that she didn't like the 'hashbrowns' either. We wont be returning which is a shame as we enjoyed the food when we were there last august. We instead went for a second brunch to the beacon up the road which was warm, friendly, lovely food, helpful staff and we spent 4 hours there as the atmosphere was worlds apart from the hunting lodge. Unfortunately the makeover has been a waste of money as the makeover should have started with the chef...
Read moreA lovely and welcoming atmosphere. We came down for a weekend away and found this place to have some food at. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. I ordered the chicken wings for one with a side of curly fries and garlic bread and my mum ordered the 8oz sirloin.
Both meals were delicious and came out with good time after ordering. The service was also very welcoming and polite.
We also orders the brownie with ice cream for dessert. Both desserts were insane, the brownie was nice and warm and the strawberry we got with it tasted fresh. It wasn’t too sweet and wasn’t too sour.
Would love to thank you for the amazing service you provided, it was also our last night which made we were thankful we picked a good...
