I was very upset with my visit to Mike's Coffee Shop. I was on a trip with my husband and mother--we had never been to Ireland/Northern Ireland before. When we sat down to eat, Mike was abrupt and rude. We quickly ordered and he brought us our food. The food was okay, nothing great. I didn't like my dish at all, and Mike did nothing to make it better. Which is fine, I didn't expect anything. The worst happened when we went to pay. We had used up all of our pounds earlier in the day, but assumed that we could use our cards to pay since there was nothing in the restaurant telling us otherwise. Mike promptly informed us, in the most pompous voice, that he did not accept cards AND he would not accept our euros as he only took "Sterrrlinggg." We were told to go to an ATM across the street. Unfortunately, we did not have any debit card to pull money from the ATM. Luckily, we found a kind man on the street who traded us euros for pounds and we were able to pay Mike. When we informed him that he should put a sign up so people don't try to pay with a card he mumbled "there's signs up all right" and cursed at us rudely. I have never seen such rude and inappropriate behavior from a business owner in my entire life. DO NOT EAT HERE. The food is definitely not worth...
Read moreMust have walked past here a hundred times, didn't give it a second glance. Then a friend told me about their sensational Thai food (Mike is married to a Thai lady) and asked a couple of us to have lunch with her. Hands down the best meal I have ever had in Bushmills, far superior to the other 'up-market' restaurants/hotels catering for tourists and holiday-home owners. I had a superb hot chicken Thai curry which was quite simply devine, my friends had a Tom Yum soup and a noodle dish - every scrap was devoured. I'm kicking myself that I didn't take photos but I was so excited about eating I forgot - but I will be back! Mike's twin girls are helping out - both just graduated in arts and display their talent around the shop - but so good they need to get it out to Designerie, the Visitor Information Centres if/when they re-open and further afield - very reasonably priced. Small scale, friendly, welcoming, Covid-aware (staff wearing masks and disinfecting tables) and half the price of places half as good! Do not pass them by - really beautiful food. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a meal out...
Read moreOrdered a mini fry - bacon, sausage, egg, soda, potato bread, pancake - everything cooked to perfection, very quickly, and the menu was all very reasonably priced.
Some bad reviews about Mike being rude, but he was pleasant with me and regarding no card machine there is an ATM opposite the cafe, a post office next door, and 2 further ATMs in walking distance, just don't be lazy and arrogant, you're in his business and he made you a nice meal.
The other staff were also friendly and helpful and if I lived anywhere near Bushmills I would...
