I attended this restaurant on Sunday 1st August, excited about getting a fry with 5 other people. My experience in this restaurant was extremely disappointing due to the events which were about to unfold. Our order was taken by a blonde fella who was very rude in several occasions and just seemed like he didn’t want to be there, he took each of our orders separately and on each occasion serving us individually he was not friendly. Most of us got coffees and they were horrible and tasted like burnt dirty water, one of my friends was that disappointed with the coffee that he went up and asked for it to be refunded and to our surprise our friend from earlier seen him coming and walked away rolling his eyes. We really don’t know what we did to anger him so much. We then received our food, already disappointed by the events before and to my surprise as soon as the plate was served there was a long hair in my eggs. Before the waiter could leave I gave him my plate back. This waiter was friendly and apologised. I however did not want another meal brought out as I just couldn’t get over what had happened. Although I’m glad I didn’t get the food as my friends said I was the real winner as it was one of the worst fry’s they had, eggs very rubbery and overcooked and the toast was rock hard. No one approached me about a refund for my breakfast so I had to go up and get this sorted myself. I’m not out here to dis establishments but I just feel since 6 of us made the effort to come out on a Sunday morning for food we would have been welcomed especially when there was maybe only 2 other tables that were filled. Maybe it was our younger age that was looked down on by the staff member, but it needs to be remembered that we will eventually be future customers and his actions have represented the Morelli’s brand very poorly and left a very bad taste, which has been talked about multiple times since Sunday. We ended up going up the promenade to get some decent coffee at a business which was grateful for our custom. After such a long period of hospitality being closed I love going out and supporting local and after a couple months of supporting this is the first time Ive felt so disappointed by an experience that I would write a...
Read moreLook before you eat My wife and I went to morelli's this morning for a breakfast treat (the wife loves this place) I ordered the "posh fry" and my wife Scrambled eggs and a crepe. The food arrived promptly and we begain to eat, while I was getting stuck in I noticed something in the posh mushrooms and after further investigation found 4 pieces of something rather large which I couldn't ascertain what they were. So I removed them from my plate and continued to eat the fry (didn't touch the mushrooms) when I finished what I wanted off my plate I then put the 4 mystery items back on my plate and took it To the counter to enquire from a staff member if he could ask the kitchen what these items might be. I returned to my seat to drink my coffee as I watched the young staff member take my plate to the kitchen I then further observed a number of staff members including the owner gather around my plate for the autopsy. No one came back to us to ask questions ,tell us what these items were or even to apologise for the contaminated food. We finished our coffee and as I was leaving I approached the counter to try and sell answers to what these items were, animal vegetable or mineral I spoke to the staff member I gave my plate to and asked if they had assitained what the items were to which he replied " sorry no we don't know what they were. End off. No apology no nothing further. It might be time for morelli's to review their policies on how to deal with customer complaints as clearly the current policies are not up to scratch. I wish I'd off taken photos but sadly I didn't feel it necessary as I expected a better response from morelli's management. my mushrooms were contaminated with something far from organic and a serious choking hazard...and what did morelli's say or do? Absolutely nothing. Shame on...
Read moreAs a student at UUC I used to pop in to buy a nice Morelli's ice cream occasionally. So, on a recent day trip to Portstewart I was keen to relive the experience. Instead of ice cream my family and I decided we'd sit in and have dinner. Portstewart was buzzing with tourists and Morelli's was no exception; it was packed! We took a few menus, grabbed some seats and placed our orders. My son asked for their wifi code but for some reason it wasn't working so he was a little disappointed. However, the food, when it arrived was worth the slight wait. The children's menu was fairly typical but their pizza, according to two of my children and also as tasted by me, was delicious and was as good as any I've ever tried from established pizzerias. One of my daughters opted for tacos and said they were amazing whilst another went for a beef, bacon and cheese burger and loved it. Since the restaurant is right on the promenade, my hubby and I couldn't resist ordering battered cod and "fat" chips. The cod was fantastic as was the accompanying tartar sauce. However, the serving of mushy peas was rather miserly and a little dried out. The chips were alright but maybe we are spoilt since we live near Genoa in Warrenpoint and their chips are unbeatable! The chips were fluffy and drier than what we tend to get in Genoa so although they were nice they just didn't match our expectations. Portion sizes of all the meals were very generous (aside from the mushy peas!) and most of us cleared our plates! Prices were reasonable and restrooms were clean and hygienic. Overall, Morelli's was worth a visit and although we weren't fit to eat dessert, if we happen to be in the area again we'll definitely try their ice cream as I remember it as being something very special from my student days over...
