This is the location where the non-Northern Irish one of us experienced a proper Ulster Fry for the first time. It is therefore rather special in its own way.
We usually arrive mid morning to lunchtime and the Regency is always packed, but you still get seated within a few minutes. Unless it is a larger group. Since it is busy, it can get quite noisy and you might struggle a bit to get a servers attention but that is alright.
This place is rather different from our usual reviews as it’s not a pub or a date location. It’s honestly just a simple, incredible restaurant that fits right into Newtownards. It is clearly by the people for the people and what you see is what you get. The food is the perfect amount of grease, it comes out super quick and the servers are very efficient. The toilets and restaurant itself are clean. Don’t expect the superb service of a dainty place or Michelin star food because you‘ll be disappointed. Its rather simple and straightforward. It’s a place to socialise and be happy. And we love it for that.
If it would be just the food or just the location or just the staff, this review would be mediocre, but the combination turns it into feel good, stress free indulgence with no fuss.
There is not much else to say apart from we are craving to go back for...
Read moreWithout doubt the worst meal I've had in a café/ restaurant in a very long time. It was so bad I expected to see Basil Faulty pop out from behind the counter. I ordered an omelette ( ham, cheese and mushroom) tasted of onions despite no onion being in it. Also it was runny in the middle. I didn't finish it. My wife ordered avocado on toast with eggs and well done bacon. The bacon was cooked on one side and sent back, only to return several minutes later much the same way. Her meal also tasted of onion. Ordered coffee which came luke warm and the milk was off. (Floaties) Complained to the waitress who took coffee and milk away. My wife had to go to the counter to get replacements after 5-10 minutes. Was quite funny though to see staff dashing about removing milkshakes they had just made before other customers complained. My son ordered a fry which in general was OK however when he cut the egg the white was raw in the middle. My wife complained to counter staff when paying, expecting the staff member to get the manager, however they just said sorry and took payment. Sad to give this review as we used to go here regularly...
Read moreTerrible service. Met a friend there, who had already ordered. All the staff were just stood at the pass, just chatting with each other. At no point did they come over to check back on my friend, who had already got her food, or to see if I wanted any food despite being in a restaurant!!! They just stood at the end of the bar laughing amongst themselves. When they eventually asked me while clearing my friend's plates, I just said 'what's the point?' One of the worst services that I've ever experienced. I'm a bar manager that serves food and I would be mortified if my staff treated their customers...
