Disappointed After Previously Positive Visits

I don’t usually leave reviews, but felt I had to after a very disappointing visit today with my family. We've been to this restaurant dozens of times over the past few years and have always had a decent experience, but today really missed the mark.

They were clearly busy, which we understand, and we were shown to our table and given menus. A few minutes later we were asked for drinks. I said we were ready to order food too, but was told quite abruptly that they’d only take the drinks first and come back for food. Not a huge deal, but the tone felt unnecessarily short.

When they returned for the food order, my daughter and I gave our order and my son just wanted some bacon and toast — something he's had here before without issue. However, we were told quite bluntly that they “don’t do build your own” and “haven’t for three months.” This was surprising, as we’ve been in that time and never had a problem. I asked if they could make an exception and was told again, rather curtly, that they couldn’t.

We were told to take more time to decide, but by then the tone had really set the atmosphere. A different server returned shortly after, and when my son said he’d just have chips, the server asked, “Is that all?” I mentioned we’d already placed most of our order with the previous server, but honestly by that point I knew we wouldn't enjoy the meal. I asked to pay for our drinks and left.

To be honest, it felt like the staff were fed up and that I was being difficult simply for asking if my son could have something as straightforward as bacon and toast. It was a simple request for a child, and as regulars, it left us feeling unwelcome. Sadly, this experience has put us...

The first experience we had was coming in at the end of service for two hot drinks and 2 desserts, they where good but overly sweet.

We came back about week later during time where food from the kitchen, we got the chowder and a chicken burger. Then chowder was very good but had a very small portion size for the ten pound price tag. The small portion size was disguised in a large belfast bap.

The chicken burger was tasty but also came masked in a large brioche bap, the chicken that came in the burger was less than half the width of the bap, this was becuase it was only half a chicken breast, which is utterly ridiculous considering that the burger and chips came to nine pounds.

Now onto the desert we ordered two éclairs one coffee and the other nutella. They came to the table and looked enticing but when we tried to cut and bit into them they where rock solid. We waited for a server to come over to check on us as they had before several times but they didn't. Once I was able to get a server attention she looked rather shocked and went and asked another member of staff, she then came back and asked if they had went hard sitting on the table, as if we had been sitting there for a week and not the pastry, she then said she would take the desserts of the bill, when I went to pay I checked the receipt and saw that only one of the bricks of pastry had been removed before I asked for the other to be removed as well.

We where hoping for...

Restaurant is lovely inside. Food is nice drinks slightly over priced Staff are rude.

I ordered chocolate chip pancakes for a child when the pancakes came out they looked nice and had some chocolate chips melted on top, but the pancakes had loads of chocolate sauce like ice-cream chocolate sauce all over them. If this was on the menu and said covered in chocolate sauce I would have asked for them without the sauce.

I cut a small piece of to see if my child would like the sauce and he hated it so I nicely told the waitress that he didn't like the sauce I did cut a piece of for him to try but he didn't like it.

I told her it would have been ok with just the chocolate chips as stated on the menu. I was very nice and calm about it and said I'm sorry but he just can't eat them.

When the bill came the pancakes were on the bill so I asked why I had to pay when they weren't nice it wasn't what was stated in the menu she said because a bite was taken.

The manager came down and was so rude it caught me off guard. She said what's the problem ! I explained and she said you got a replacement (which I didn't) all kids eat the pancakes with the sauce and love it , I explained my child didn't and it wasn't stated in the menu i would have asked with out.

I definitely would not feel comfortable to...

Our most recent Nightfox evening was a great success! 🙌 Stay tuned for details on the next one. In the meantime, here’s a glimpse into an unforgettable night at the Den. 🦊 #nightfox #thefoxesden #newtownards #breakfast #lunch #dinner #cocktails #CapCut

A hidden wee gem. We came in an hour before closing and when you have a group of 5 adults to toddlers and everyone bar one has a food intolerance not all restaurants are happy to see you 🤷‍♂️ Here couldn’t have been helpful. Everyone left with full bellies after the staff answered a lot of questions and made the menu work for us. The picture is of the monster club sandwich that they made with gluten bread! Would have been 5 stars for service but it was the end of the day, as I mentioned, late on a Sunday and I’m guessing they were trying to get home after a busy day.

First time here and we were pleasantly surprised. The beauty of the breakfast menu is you can make it whatever you want as the items are priced separately. We just had toast and poached eggs and I had the bacon too which was lovely. The place is spotless as were the loos. Will definitely be back to try the Eggs Benedict and they also do Shakshuka which I'm looking forward to at a later date. Well worth a visit as there's plenty of parking spaces and you don't have to go into the town.
