We have now officially adopted The Poet as our wee âlocalâ. Weâve called in a few times over this past year for a quick pint after a long day out with the kids and ordered a few starters & kids meals. Our most recent visits weâve sat for longer and ordered 3 courses. Each time weâve visited we havenât had a reservation but the staff couldnât have been more friendly or welcoming especially catering for three kids. It honestly has a great wee cozy vibe, itâs just nice to sit with a pint at the window and watch the world go by. The food is always incredible especially their wings, prawns pil pil and prawn cocktail (Sunday only for PC) weâve had a variety from the menu and it has always been outstanding quality and generous portions. Weâve enjoyed their Roasts, fish and chips, pork belly and their chicken stack etc. Also, a variety of kids meals which went down a treat especially the kids pasta dish with garlic bread. Oh and that sticky toffee pudding is to die for, itâs amazing! Such an underrated wee place. Good atmosphere, great prices and superb food. Thoroughly enjoyed our random wee visits. Some of the nicest and friendliest staff. I cannot recommend The...
Read morePaid £10 deposit to secure a table for the 12th. When we arrived the place was empty but the service was absolutely abysmal. Our starter came without the side. The server seemed like he was running away every time he left our table as if he was rushed of his feet. The portion sizes where like childrens sizes ,two goujons cut up on a handful of chips for £14 and four goujons with a handful of chips for £16 we were actually overcharged £17 for this. No servers came near us for the remainder of the meal. We then realised after paying the bill, that the £10 deposit wasn't taken off the bill. We returned to query this and the staff were less than kind and in fact quite rude with not even an apology. Unfortunately we won't be returning customers. When you make a mistake at least own up to it and apologise instead of treating paying customers like the ones who are in the wrong. Extremely disappointed as this was for my birthday meal and have left feeling quite upset...
Read moreHad Sunday lunch with my family, we ordered 2 lunches from the carvery menu and one nut roast. Staff were polite and friendly as always. My Goats cheese starter was delicious.
I wasn't overly impressed with the nut roast, it had the consistency of undercooked stuffing. The roast potatoes I feel could also have been better, they weren't crispy and not enough gravy was served with all 3 meals. I asked if I could have a Yorkshire pudding with my meal which isn't included, however, the staff very kindly spoke to the kitchen who sorted this out, so thank you very much. When we were offered the desert menu we weren't told until it was time to order that the kitchen didn't have desert my parents were going to order which is a shame. Overall I feel improvements to the nut roast, the roasties, more gravy and perhaps an option like cauliflower cheese for vegetarians...
