Lovely way to spend an hour, just sitting in the window in the early morning, watching the folk head of to work, college and yoga.
The pastries are really first class and the service is not bad. Though with the present shenanigans of mask wearing and the embracing of psycho-social distancing, it is not easy to discern if the person you imagine is vaguely smiling, is actually rabidly scowling instead.
The decor is modren and pleasant. Lots of pine and big windows that make it feel rather like a cool Copenhagen hangout.
There is free wifi, and that always brings out the Ms Rowling in me. I just want to sit there imbibing good coffee and tapping out a novel about a cisgender girl with blue hair, red tartan and a passion for passion. She is unfortunately, waylaid by a wayward Tory, who disrespects her sapio-sensuality and her deep commitment to the science of Astrology and the philosophy of Veganism.
However, it all ends well for our beautiful, and amusingly idiosyncratic heroine, for at an Extinction Rebellion event in Chapelfield Gardens, she meets a very handsome Afghan refugee. He is an artist with a fine talent honed by suffering, and incidentally, pockets filled with a wealth of perfect emeralds. They get together, and soon they have a studio and a nest of happy children, living in a big white brick house in NR2, with a Land Rover and a Lotus parked on their gravelled drive.
Anyway, the coffee here is never quite hot enough. To get around this, you must consistently ask for extra-hot and will constantly be presented with a coffee that's extra-warm: so 4 stars.
Edit. Have been back since and the staff have been professional and helpful, and with Ollie and Nicki on board, there is never a mediocre cup of...
Read moreI'm a regular at Bread Source but had a very disappointing experience at Bridleway Alley yesterday. I'll go to your other branches but I was so put off by the staff yesterday that I won't go back to this branch. My friend bought 3 coffees and cinnamon bunsx as I'd been bragging about how good they are. I went to find a table and my friend told me that we weren't allowed to seat in and she'd been sold take away coffees. I reminded her it was minus 1 degrees outside and I wasn't sitting outside to eat our buns! I found lots of empty chairs (by the 6 people sitting with 1 empty coffee cup and 1 laptop each) and created a little seating area with 3 chairs. The girl that sold my friend take away coffees came into the restaurant 4 times to stare at us. She never spoke but just kept looking at us. SO RUDE! We are paying customers and are entitled to drink and eat your products inside. My friends were so uncomfortable in there that we drank our coffess quickly and left. My friends said that they would never return after being made to feel so...
Read moreGreat pastries, coffee and bread as always from this company. However, the cafe is let down by the atmosphere. There were single customers on laptops on all the tables, including the window seat, even those for 4 people. Those on the tables for 4 people had their 'work' spread out to discourage people using the space. It was very quiet, with only tapping on laptops - broken by a loud 'work' call from one person. We felt like we were intruding! It's a shame it's more like an office space than an actual cafe as the coffee, food, location and space itself is great. Perhaps a limit on laptop use would help encourage customers who are not...
