The short version: Quite simply outstanding.
The more detailed version:
Passing by on a Sunday lunch time and decided to dine there. Greeted by a very pleasant maître d'hôtel, with a very good knowledge of wines who was able to recommend an excellent wine pairing that I would not typically have ordered.
The Sunday menu included a Chateaubriand which we decided upon without much attention paid to the test of the menu.
As a light starter, we shared a bowl of olives. These were full of flavour, accompanied by sundried tomatoes and garlic, with some herbs. The olives had not been pitted, but I do not see this as a problem.
The Chateaubriand was faultless, cooked exactly how we wanted. Indeed, we both wished the meat to be cooked slightly differently and the kitchen ensured that our request was satisfied. The meat was served on a bed of fried red onions and accompanied by some French fried potatoes and side salad, with Bérnaise sauce.
The main course was one of those meals where you feel a slight sense of disappointment because you know that it will come to an end eventually. However, that feeling was eclipsed by the joy of eating the meal.
The recommended wine pairing made by the maître d'hôtel was a very delicious Pinot Noir. This was after I was encouraged not to follow my usual habit of ordering a Saint Emilion. Top marks for the recommendation.
The waiter also fulfilled my request to decant the wine for us. This, of course, further improved the flavour.
We were having such a lovely time there that we decided to indulge ourselves with a dessert as well. On viewing the dessert menu, we both got no further than the crème brûlée. This was also delicious with an irregular caramelisation on the top, indicating genuine authenticity.
All in all, the experience was faultless. The food was all perfect and the service was exceptional. I'd have no hesitation about...
Read moreNot normally a fan of chain restaurants but Cote the only one nearby that had free table after movie. crab starter watery and tasteless. assume crab was frozen, a shame as we are in Norfolk with some of the best tasting crab in the world on our doorstep. plate was also hot, not a great way to server a cold starter. My main was a ribeye steak to be served med rare. it was medium at best and not great. my wife had the salad nicoise. again served on a very hot plate. i pointed this out to the waitress who initially argued that the tuna was freshly cooked. not sure what she meant by this i pointed out again that the salad was to be served cold but that the plate was hot wilting the salad. her manager then appeared again saying i was wrong because the plate had been on the pass under the light to keep the food warm. i again pointed out that the plate was hot not because of the pass but because it was just out of the dishwasher. that a salad should be served on a cold plate. also that when cooking fresh tuna for a nicoise the tuna should be cooled before serving on top of the salad, not heated. again he decided the best option was to argue. two things here, firstly, know your food. as front of house you should know what is being served and be able to discuss with customers. secondly, do not have a stand up argument with a customer. you asked me what i thought of the meal (that i am paying for). it is therefore rude to then try to put me in my place. I have eaten at Cote before in other places and it has been ok but this was not. one thing is for sure, if you served this gunk in France to a french person, you would more than likely be publicly...
Read moreHad a very poor experience here Saturday 24/06/23 went out with friends after receiving a £100 gift voucher for Christmas, food and service were good, however when we came to pay the bill, there was an issue with the gift voucher, which we were not aware of, we handed over the gift voucher to be told it had a balance of £0.00 on it, which was a surprise as we were gifted it, the young server then went to get the manager Georgia, who unfortunately handled the situation very poorly. While I understand there is a procedure, we were made to feel embarrassed and like we were trying to scam the restaurant, thankfully we were with good friends who understood the situation, but if we had decided to take a customer there, it may have been different. Having handed over the voucher along with a receipt for £100, it was pretty obvious to me what had happened. It looks like the money had been paid, but the voucher not scanned, I’m pretty sure the easiest thing to do would have been to take the money off the bill. We were told that we would be paying the bill in full, and would have to get in touch with head office to sort it out, the gift card and receipt were taken away from us, and reluctantly returned, it was a very bad way to handle the situation, being made to feel like we were scammers trying to blag food/drink. I have never written a bad review before, but after being made to feel like we were in the wrong, when it was clearly an error on the restaurants behalf when the voucher was Scanned, really...
