Pre-Covid this was my favourite city-pub.
We wanted to go for a friends birthday and when we called, we were told to book in advance.
When we arrived, despite a perfectly good table being vacant, they made us watch while they kicked another party off a table (looked like they were very happy to have just served them a round just before forcing them to down or abandon their drinks) the staff then hastily cleaned the table and told us to be antisocial, not to say hello to anyone on other tables, even if we lived with them. Thankfully they also told us "don't worry there are no bookings after you, so we won't kick you out unless you break the rules"
That table was vacant for nearly an hour before anyone showed up. - we asked several times to be moved there because it was less exposed to the elements. a couple then sat there, on a table for six, then it was empty again before another couple showed up. - two of our party left in this time because they were cold! (not getting the same benefit of the empty table under the heat lamps!)
On my first visit to the facilities, it seemed they hadn't been checked in a while, no loo roll in any toilets. - to the pubs credit this was quickly rectified once I flagged it.
We later found that the busier side of the pub was walk-ins, while our quieter side was the bookings. so many tables were empty for so long, with people regularly getting kicked out for overstaying their welcome. Such a rigid system with no flexibility. The waiting staff all seemed very stressed and anxious, there was only one with good customer service skills, one of the bouncers was an asset to the team as he was at least polite and friendly. Sing songs, dancing or saying hello to other tables, moving to a warmer table, will get you kicked out mind.
Overall, this wasn't the good pub experience I remember. Customers were a hassle. Pubs are supposed to be community places, this just felt like drinking at home but with a high price tag and out in the cold! I won't...
Read moreArrived early for Father’s Day meal, we were taken to the table which we reserved two weeks ago, we sat and waited about 20 mins for someone to take our order, we then found out we had to order at the bar, would have been nice if we were told, I ordered our food and drinks and were told it would be 45minutes wait, we had no choices really as it was Father’s Day everywhere was busy and didn’t fancy going to McDonalds, we duly waited the 45 minutes and I enquired at the bar how much longer and was told in the next few minutes, nothing came we were all getting agitated as were the tables nearby who were also waiting, we talked to the manager who said it would be served very soon actually the time between I was told by the barman and the food actually arriving was another 30 minutes, we were offered free drinks, which two of our group took them, I refused silently seething, I wanted food my wife is a diabetic too, where I parked the time was up, the food did arrive everyone was very apologetic but our day was ruined, as this was a Sunday lunch they forgot parsnips on two of the plates, we were just wanting to get out ! I was anxious about my car, the day was supposed to be special but it was ruined. You can never get that special day back again. I think I know what was wrong, they were still booking in people on the day and it was crammed, outside and downstairs, the reason, Greed they tried to do as many covers as possible including taking more bookings on the day, in conclusion I know there’s others that walked out and won’t be coming back and the same here, if they didn’t have the staff to cope why try to.
Dear Lamb, thank you for your reply, I won’t bother phoning you as you cannot change that day, a Father’s Day that was ruined by your greed, a day I...
Read moreA popular pub with thrills. Me and my friend arrived about 11.30 to have a drink as it was incredibly warm outside. It was very quiet but I knew this pub anyway and I know how busy it can get. We were told the lunch menu wont start until 12 which we were fine with so we took a window seat and relaxed.
Firstly, i love the drink bottles being used as candles, very different and unique. There are lots of talking points in the lamb with various old items hanging on the wall and around the bar. The place itself is welcoming and the atmosphere is very nice. Always thriving even when it isn't busy.
Outside soon got crowded which in the gorgeous weather isn't a surprise. There are plenty of tables to sit at but its just as cool and nice inside. I havent been upstairs before so I cant comment on that but I'm sure it's just as nice as downstairs.
The bar area is large but when theres a lot of people there you have to be confident enough to find the bar! The music is great here and the evening atmosphere is outstanding. Everyone has a great time.
The food menu has lots of choice at a good price. The chicken tikka masala was nicely done. The rice could have been cooked a little better as I feel it was microwaved. BUT it still tasted good and I was fine with that.
There is an impressive range of drinks so you definitely wont feel thirsty here. Theres also a gaming Nintendo to keep the kids OR adults busy and happy! The staff were very attentive to everyone's needs and went round and made sure everyone was ok.
I recommend this place to families, couples, singletons and everyone basically. Whether your looking for a quick drink, a place to meet someone or a big plate of food with your mates, you'll...
