EDIT: Wow. I'm afraid your reply just isn't true. I think that if you are honest the real reason that you seemed to get the hump with my table was that it included some young children and some elderly people who weren't ordering as quickly as you wanted us to. I would like to think that when you are elderly people will treat you with some more decency and understanding.

But look its your business and I'm sure people will read this and make up their own minds. I hope this review helps them to do that. I was disappointed with my visit to the Eagle today.

The head waiter seemed to be having a bad day. Shortly after arriving he accidentally walked into me and I ended up with beer spilt down my front.

Later he also managed to get into a disagreement with my Mum (who is nearly 80). She asked for a dry sherry and when it arrived it was a sweet sherry. She asked to have it changed and the head waiter became indignant saying that was the only sherry they had.

I had to go to the bar and speak to him in order to get it changed. As I was speaking to him he was not at all interested in what I had to say and kept interrupting me by saying the same thing over and over. "...but I showed her the bottle.... but I showed her the bottle" Yes you may have showed her the bottle but she clearly asked for a different drink! -and at nearly 80 years old her eyesight is not the best so it was unrealistic to expect her to read the small print on the label.

My family is typically British in that in order for one of us to feel like we need to complain something has to be pretty wrong. The food was OK. We all had a roasts. My chicken was OK but the veg looked like they had been boiled for a long time.

Nice beer and a good...

Visited The Eagle today for lunch with my mother and a friend. Food arrived and as it was placed in front of me, the first thing I noticed was a long black hair wrapped around a fry (we are all blonde). I notified the waitress who said nothing but promptly took the plate away to the kitchen. A few minutes later my plate was returned and I was informed my fries had been replaced (not the whole meal). My burger had now cooled down quite a bit but as we were short on time, I ate it.

Having worked in hospitality, when our bill arrived, as a gesture, I had expected something (my drink, my meal, or a portion of it at least) to be taken off. I understand these things happen, even with precautions in place. To our surprise there was no reduction or even an apology. We made a mention of this and the server took the bill to speak to her colleague. They spoke amongst themselves and returned telling us that since they replaced my fries, they would not be offering anything further (clearly not even an apology). The server proceeded to say had I mentioned the hair at the end of my meal and the fries hadnโ€™t been replaced, then the meal would have been taken off the bill. She remained quite defensive about having replaced it and thatโ€™s where it stands so we left it alone. Paid my ยฃ16 for a luke warm burger and...

Used to eat here a lot, so i was looking forward to reaquainting myself again with this lovely pub.... The food was always exceptional and the atmosphere alive and friendly However, i was bitterly disappointed with the food.. We both had mushroom pate on toast...and it must be the first time in my life that something had no taste whatsoever.. If i was blindfolded, i couldnt tell you what i had eaten. How can a mushroom not be full of flavour.. Also it would be more pleasing to have had little thin pieces of toast on the plate next to a ramikin of mushroom pate and maybe a little garnish....instead of 2 rough thick pieces of toast slapped with the topping.. Main courses ok but nothing outstanding and my stew was a bit too salty.. Service ok, not very smiley and no attentive interest in how our eating experience was.. Some hospitality training would be good i think. No atmosphere really considering it was a Saturday evening. The establishment closed at 11, so it was a surprise to hear a waitress tell the customers she was closing the coffee machine and if we wanted one it had to be then...really? Its a shame the Eagle has gone downhill in many ways...and sadly i wont return. In an age of rising restaurant prices, i expect the complete experience of eating out to be a game...

As I was staying in a nearby hotel for work, I was only in for bed and breakfast so had to find a local establishment for evening meal. I was told about The Eagle and so decided to check it out. Evening service for food was at 6pm, but as I was there slightly earlier and also a couple were waiting they allowed for the kitchen to open a bit earlier for us. The menu was basic in my opinion but had a selection of dishes that would cater for most patrons. I opted for the Eagle Burgerโ€ฆ and it was perhaps the best burger I have ever tasted! And this was not your usual takeaway-type burger it was quite a beast and I struggled to actually finish it all. What with the 3/4 plateful of skin-on-fries it was a fair sized plate! Now the atmosphere in the place was quiet on my first visit (yes I did go there the second night for another Eagle ๐Ÿ™‚) and was a bit more busy the following night. The staff were friendly and could not be more helpful. Very attentive and ensured my visit was enjoyable. Overall this place is great value with generous portions sizes. Well worth a visit.

Lovely Sunday lunch! Table outside which was chilly but worth it in corona virus. Great staff who kept checking in on us despite being outside and who wore masks throughout, and good one touch policy on drinks glasses. Little car park out the front which was sufficient but could be quickly filled in a busy day. Dog friendly in the back garden, no idea about inside. Food was really tasty and great portions sizing. Only improvement I'd ask for would be a jug of gravy but that's probably gluttony rather than need, as there was enough on the plate. Desserts were good. I had thought that the "chocolate pot" would be a hot dessert but it wasn't - in these corona times it might be a useful idea to reference these on the menu for outside diners to know how to warm up! Would love to come back soon x

Nice spot on the Newmarket Road. This Inn has some quirks and a slightly confused style, but offers up a selection of spaces that suit different needs to an extent. We had the Eagle Burger on recommendation from one of the other reviews on Google, and whilst the overall presentation is fairly basic with the wide rim white plate and large helping of fries but no other garnish or salad to balance the visual, what you do get is a really tasty burger. A well-judged balance of ingredients, a properly cooked patty and a sesame seed topped bun that felt fresh. The ambience is maybe a little lacking with only hard chairs and tables for the most part, and the main bar area could do with some sound deadening to make it easier to talk to the barman. Overall, really good little stop off. Would recommend.
