I really hate doing reviews like this, the York is one of my locals, I've seen it change hands so many times over recent years and each time I get my hopes up, only to see them dashed. Popped in a week or so ago, my first thoughts were, the new decor is so dark and oppressive, dark gray really doesn't work, the staff greet you like rabbits stuck in headlights, not quite knowing what to say. Bought some drinks, average prices for the area and ordered food. This is where we have a real tragedy, my order was the pork belly, yes it looked nice, great for your Instagram profile, but in reality, what a failure. Pork belly needs a crisp skin , not a flabby bit of inedible fat, braised fennel should cut like butter, not need to be hacked and the Jus should be more substantial than a spoon of water. Generally a poor meal and not cheap. My wife's fish meal, fish over cooked, was not much bigger than a starter. All in all not very good. If you are going to do this kind of gastro pub al a carte meals, do it well or don't bother. Not one member of staff asked if I enjoyed the meal, that really sums it up. Why bars around the Unthank persist in this kind of food baffles me, none of them do it well, yet charge stupid prices. NR3 has some of the best eateries around, most doing contemporary takes on food we love. People say to me , the Unthank is for the older generation and this is the food they love, I say look at Blue Joanna, packed nightly , with a menu far removed from the others around it. Time for the Unthank...

A Fantastic Christmas Party at The York Public House, Norwich!

We recently held the NHS staff Christmas party at The York Public House, and I can't speak highly enough of the experience. From start to finish, everything was exceptional!

The bar staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to help us, even assisting with transporting the disco setup to the first floor—a gesture we truly appreciated. The service throughout the evening was speedy, efficient, and always delivered with a polite and cheerful attitude.

The food was absolutely outstanding—beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. A huge thank you to the manager and the team, especially India, for making the evening so seamless and memorable.

If you're looking for a venue that combines excellent service, delicious food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, The York Public House is the place to be. We'll definitely be returning for future events. Thank you again for making our...

Wow! This is not just pub food... this is top quality gastro-pub food. We had a peep at the menu on Sunday & decided to try dinner on Tuesday evening (food was served 6-9pm). The pub was warm & buzzy, with nearly all tables occupied (so I'd recommend booking). We were served by Lauren who did well running the unexpectedly busy restaurant and bar on her own, always smiley & helpful. The menu is one page of pure class. Carefully considered combinations, plenty of local produce (meats, seafood, cheese etc). We had starters (top pick: mussels! best mussels in Norwich!) and mains (both the burger & seabass were flawless). All the desserts looked tasty so next time we must leave space for pud. Can't wait to return to try the other dishes. Congratulations to the new manager, the chef and all the team, and thank you for transforming this local pub. Brace yourselves, looks like you're going to have a very busy...
