My wife and I hadn't been to visit since the children were born. Over the last few years, as expected, the menu and decor have changed. It's very cosy and parts are hidden, so even though it is a massive restaurant, the area we were sitting felt closed off.
Great food still and great service. It was a nice, warm spring evening so it was understandable that the food came out a bit late. The waitress and manager were very accommodating and friendly.
They have a lovely play area for younger kids, and a field for older kids, or anyone, to run and play football in. Lots of people were outside drinking and the environment, even though it is close to a road, was still secluded and relaxing.
I had the mixed grill. I can't complain about any of it. Steak was cooked to satisfaction (medium rare), gammon, sausage and chicken were all cooked perfect. All the seasoning was right for all the meals.
The potato skin starter was a bit too flaky, but the toppings were spot on. The outside skin was really crunch, but actual potato seemed a bit dry and fell apart too easy.
The lamb on the roast was very nice and so were the vegetable sides.
The children's meals were all cooked well and came out hot.
All the desserts as well were delicious.
Considering we had four children and four adults, to get the food out in a fairly reasonable time was great.
The only reason I am giving this a four star rating is because they forgot to bring out one starter and they gave custard for the melt in the middle pie instead of ice cream. I know they were busy and would have rectified this, but with four young children, we decided to cut our losses.
I would definitely revisit and recommend the Griffin to friends.
As always, prices are subjective. Take a look at the menu before you go in, and also look at their specials and offers. They had/have some...

We decided to go a couple of months later and had steak again. This time it was cooked very well and it wasn’t tough of chewy like before. We went again 2 weeks ago and it was perfect. I don’t know if you have a new chef in there or the staff took the review to heart but we were happy with our food so I can say I can recommend Griffin for rib eye steak 🥩
We've been to Griffin at least 3 times for lunch in the past month. Every time we ordered ribeye steak for lunch and different starters/puddings.
I must say - food is inconsistent. The first and second time the steak was lovely and cooked medium as requested. Today it was way overcooked and there is no way the chef hasn't noticed it while plating it as it was crunchy on the top and meat was wavy not flat as usual. It looked like the cook left it on the pan and forgot about it while cooking something else. We didn't complain or send it back as we were hungry and just wanted to eat. Dear or dear, it was like chewing an old leather sole 😩 such a disappointment! pudding can be a hit or miss too - warm chocolate brownie wasn't warm at all. The apple and cherry crumble was lovely and hot and there was plenty of it. Cheescake is really nice but I guess it depends on who is in the kitchen as sometimes there is more lemon curd than the other.
In my opinion there should be more staff on the shift, today we've heard one of the girls saying loud and clear that 'she needs a toilet now cause she's been holding it for an hour' - thanks for sharing! 🥴 And every time we've been there we had get hold of someone ourselves to either order a pudding or to pay as no one ever checks if everything is okay or if we need anything. Please hire more staff! You need it especially in busier times like...
Read moreStaff were polite and helpful, with a good sense of humour. There was a little confusion with numerous similar food orders, but drinks orders were bang on (and glasses were pristine - I am sometimes a little fussy about glass hygiene).
Food was very tasty, well prepared and presented and served well, but possibly they may have a capacity issue with preparing some item types in the kitchen. Despite knowing how many people were dining together; 2-3 meals from a party of 5-6 were significantly delayed (roughly 15-20 mins) when it didn't seem too busy (mid afternoon, Thursday). Once again though, I have to say the food was cooked to perfection, and served hot. I had a garlic mushroom soup starter (which was nothing short of exquisite), followed by crispy cod gujons with chips. The taste, texture, flavour and presentation - all of which was delightful and thoroughly enjoyed. My only (very minor criticism) would be that with my chosen dessert (melt in the middle chocolate pud); possibly it was heated for a fraction too long, so the middle had leaked out onto the serving plate, leaving it slightly drier than intended. I noticed the same was true for some of my friends who had the same item. It was still enjoyable though, and the accompanying scoop of vanilla ice cream, was of good quality and a great match with the hot pudding - though a slightly bigger scoop would mean I didn't have to worry I would run out 😂.
Overall, I feel the experience was definitely a joy, and I would look forward to visiting again.
(Current covid guidelines were followed too, and I felt at no point, worried about being there... This was as much a customers' behaviour aspect thing, as it was a...
