I booked a table for my husband and our best friends as our usual choice was closed for refurbishment. I'd heard good things about the Arches and wanted to try something different.
There are plenty of options to choose from the menu - both English and Indian dishes, which you can mix and match.
The restaurant is lovely, service was excellent, and the food was beautiful. Even so, it's very expensive. The Indian menu is mainly cheaper than the English menu (but curries don't come with rice so we had to order that as a side). I'm happy to pay a little more for quality but there are places just as good that are cheaper. For example, my husband would often opt for a mixed grill but was put off by the price as it was a good £7 or £8 more than other places for the same items. We still spent well over £110 between 4 people even picking some cheaper options.
I don't like to complain as, other than the high prices, we couldn't fault the place. Perhaps we'll return for a special occasion (or if someone else...
Read moreMy Husband and I came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We went straight in to the bar and was served by a lovely young lady called Keeley, she really was a pleasure and very funny. It was extremely busy but we got seated earlier than expected so that was a result, although table was in the wrong name and was advised it had been double booked, but they did sort that out without any problems. We had to ask for menus, had to ask what the process was for ordering. They did not take the order at the table, which is rather annoying one of you have to get up to order at the kitchen hatch and the queue was long. Asked for drinks menu, was told to ask at the bar! For our drinks we had to go to order at the bar, which again is an inconvenience. Food arrived and whilst it was nice and good sized portions it felt rather disappointing overall. When going for a meal, you expect a level of service which was sadly not provided and for the price you pay it just...
Read moreWe went for lunch on Saturday. Surprisingly the place was completely empty at around 130. That seemed strange. What was missing for us was the welcome. They could have made us feel so welcome as it was empty. We ordered the food and drinks and both came quite quickly. The food was really nice, couldn’t fault it until one of the party found a long hair in the middle of her veggie chicken. She had left that near the end to eat too. We alerted them to the fact and it was ‘what do you want me to do’. They took off one of the drinks for the problem and there was a half hearted apology. I suppose in a nutshell, lovely food minus the hair, front of house not very welcoming or friendly, attention to detail missing, salt in a rusty pepper pot for example, just not in any hurry to go back and as we left no front of house said bye or anything, think this is why it may be empty. Sadly nicely done out but just not going to leave us with any desire to go back...
