This place is very inconsistent. I was a regular but after the hair in my salad, the visits in-between that and my last visit, I've decided not to go back. The owner is hospitable but the manager is not. The manager would typically suggest that he just add more hot water rather than give me a new pot of tea. I almost always had a dirty tea strainer. Cutlery could be an issue as well in regards to cleanliness. The girls do not speak very good English which is difficult. I hate it when staff expect tips. I never did. The manager literally suggested that I tip. The final straw was when he had his leering friend in and they sat in the middle of the place like it was an Eastern European bar rather than an English tea room. In that same visit, he with the 2 waitresses made my friend and I wait about 15 minutes to be served. Failing to serve us, I left awkward and embarrassed as I had told the waitress, before taking a seat, that we would like a menu and she just stood around chatting with the other girl and him with his friend.

Read moreA bit let down here by £ vs quality. I don't mind paying more for a great experience, and this applies to cafés as much as anything. But ... £6.90 for a 'small' scone, which didn't come to the table until our coffee was virtually finished did not win me over. Taste-wise, it was nice enough with the jam and clotted cream, though for me, it didn't have the fresh-homemade flavour I had looked forward to. Not so important for me personally, but I know a subject of common complaint was what looked like a long hair on the inside of my cup, but was in fact an obvious crack from lip to base. Pretty sure that this is a no-no for the food hygienists! Sorry guys to post this review, but as you know I did mention it to you, and you apologised. Things are tough for independents with costs but this makes it even more important to maintain attention to detail. I do my best to support such as yourselves with my business and avoid the High...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at The Rose on High Street for a while now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best spots in Oxford. Over time, I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu, and it has never disappointed.
Their scones and cakes are simply unmatched. Freshly made every day and absolutely delicious. The scones are perfectly light and fluffy, and the cakes always taste fresh and full of flavor. They’re the highlight of my mornings, and more often than not, my day starts here with a pot of tea and a warm scone.
The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about providing a great experience. Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea, you’ll always find something delightful.
If you’re in Oxford and want authentic, freshly made food with charm and quality, The Rose is the...
