Askews Southsea — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Super little known gem here. I’ve only recently moved to the area and goodness this is a little star of a cafe to come to.

The staff were very attentive but not intrusive.

The food was top notch.

I went for the salmon with poached egg with spinach and avocado. Too often eggs are over cooked and the avocado is not fresh.

NOT here!

Egg yolks runny, avacado ripe soft and beautifully green.

The bread and bagels were on spot with toasting. And, the salmon. I’m not a fan of smoked salmon likely because I get it from a supermarket but Angels 👼 salmon was lush. Not greasy, over salted or thin. I’ll post a photo. And fresh leaves with no grit. 😁😁😁

Also Angels were very happy to accommodate additional requests. I asked for hollandaise sauce. Not a problem. My friend, having seen one of the other dishes provided to a table, ordered the same to take away for her daughter. That’s important since my friend knew immediately that her daughter (who battles many medical problems ) her daughter would love that meal.

Angels 👼 got straight to it and provided in a take away version.

Also very good that a pot of tea for 2 is actually a pot of tea for 2. And of course propa tea. ( you will get it if you are from up north) 🤣😁😁😁🤣

Then we come to the last part. It’s a very happy relaxed place where dogs and puppies are welcome. All the pups/dogs were very well behaved as were their owners. Those that know dogs will understand.

So I think that says it all. 👼 we will be back....

Avoid this place at all costs!!!

Very greedy business, with an owner who doesn't know how to run a business. They will accept online orders even if they can't fulfill them and make you wait on average and hour and a half. Regularly the food arrives wrong which is a shame as the food is brilliant.

Needs someone who knows how to run a business, if you can't fulfill orders and customer wait times don't accept the order. Every order should be checked before it leaves the kitchen these are basics.

The delivery driver is also the owner who is also the person who takes the phone calls it's not good especially when it takes 15 calls to get to speak to him.

Avoid this place to avoid disappointment it's a real shame as the food could really take the place somewhere it's a shame how it's run...

I placed an order via Just Eat and was given an estimated delivery time of 1.5 hours which I wasn’t happy with so I decided to cancel the order. A member of staff then called me and explained that my order would’ve been delivered much sooner than the expected time and that I should place the order again, which of course I did after his reassurance. My order was then delivered even later than 1.5 hours and was cold with items missing from my breakfast.

I understand that they may have been busy but for a member of staff to call me to tell me that I should place an order again after I cancelled it and reassure me it would be delivered much sooner than 1.5 hours for it to then be delivered even later is...
