Disgusted with the behaviour of the women in glasses and the manager. Before we got ID’d my partner asked the one with glasses for a purple rain to which she huffed leant on the till and said “you had to pick the most awkward one didnt you.” And then because I don’t think the manager liked that I asked to cut through the booked ‘wake’ area to get to the back before she asked for my ID which of course I gave. She then stated it was too worn, to which I showed her the hologram and we had explained I’ve been in clubs etc and they’ve used the hologram machine which she said they don’t have which was fair enough but then the attitude and refusing to give my ID back was disgusting. Just purely telling me why this ID was wrong to have even though this dingy (seemingly all males) pub was the only pub that’s EVER declined it. Definitely sense a bitter old women behind the manager. Not only that I had a friend work here once before or around covid and she had explained how horribly she treated the staff unless they were to her liking anyway which was odd.

I was also being served by the one with glasses over the past few weeks anyway - just happened to catch the manager who clearly didn’t like me. But I guess you get the service you pay for - cheap and tasteless. As I said to her it’s not hard to go anywhere else for a purple rain drink, she just happened to be where I was after birthday...

Rude staff who clearly need to scrub up on their policies. Used to come here loads but since management (I believe) has changed a few years ago, the atmosphere is now very unwelcoming and staff cause a hostile atmosphere. They were very rude and smart mouthed us over an honest mistake with what time it was. Staff accused us of trying to order for someone who was of drinking age but wasn't drinking and didn't have ID - we already stated neither drinks were for them. Staff attempted to refuse to serve us despite the 'challenge 25' only being for those who are ordering/drinking an alcoholic beverage, those ordering/drinking were not challenged over their age. Food was average at best, chicken...

Ok atmosphere, great staff, poor food. Went for a roast and paid the extra for a large. The portios were so small they'd be a kids portion anywhere else. The vegetables were all raw, the meat was cheap processed meat and the gravy was almost non existent. The mash and peas were nice but the rest was a waste of money. Such a shame because They have really turned everything else around there. There is a decent atmosphere in there now, happy and relaxed and the staff are some of the nicest, friendliest and most helpful you will feel better anywhere in Portsmouth.
