Golden Hind — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I wanted to give zero stars but it wouldn't let me, so I had to give 1, bit that is incredibly generous. I booked a table for 7 people and Donna assured me that it wouldn't be a problem, and she would put us on a table to suit, but when we arrived we were put on 2 separate tables. This was consequently resolved, but the whole experience was absolutely diabolical. Do not bother with this place. The management (Andrew) was pathetic, the staff looked like they were doing a prison sentence with their attitude and demeanour, and the food was WELL below average. We took our 92 year old dad for lunch but we really wish we hadn't. We had a table booked for 12 noon, but our starters didn't come out until 1pm! We had to ask 3 times where our mains were, and when they finally came out at 2.15, they were lukewarm at best. No one cleared the table after drinks or starters, and we weren't asked once how our food was. I am beginning to think this was because they knew it was not good. DO NOT USE THIS PUB. You would think that after being closed for so long they would try to encourage customers back, but this team didn't seem to give a damn. I will be telling all of my friends and acquaintances not to use this establishment. The whole experience ruined Fathers Day for my 92 year old dad. Shame on you Golden Hind.

Edit...I have since heard from the Area Manager, Sarah, with regard to this and she was extremely apologetic and mortified that we had received such bad customer service. We had a good discussion over the phone and she has assured me that this is not the norm. Thank you for taking the time to contact me...

Worst pub we've been to in a very long time, unfortunately. We had reserved a table and made clear that it was a special occasion. We weren't even greeted when we arrived and so went up to the bar to ask where our table was. A very uninterested young bloke asked for our drinks order first (we weren't even sat yet) before showing us a tiny table right opposite the toilets. Should've followed my instincts really and left, but seeing as we were there, we ordered food. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because my husband quite liked his burger, which wasn't even served with the rosemary skin on fries it was sold with but with cheap freezer fries. For almost 30 mins after we had finished the food, the plates were sitting on our tiny table so we had to finish our drinks with crossed arms, as there was no place on the table to rest them on. Waiters came by at least every 30 seconds and cleared glasses from every single table but ours. At some point, the waiter dropped a used napkin on the floor, looked at my husband "so sorry about that", my husband felt he had to pick it up and put it on our still on the table sitting plates. Even after this, the same waiter passed by our table another 3 times with empty hands, not clearing the plates. We had enough and left. Needless to say, we won't come back. We booked this pub for my mum’s 50th birthday gathering where all family and friends were invited to join; roughly around 80 people. We had pre booked weeks in advance and informed we will be discussing about a buffet at a later date. My mum called up at the start of the week to discuss about the buffet and plans for the party happening at the end of the week and the person on the phone informed us that our booking had been cancelled with no notice because we did not give 7 days notice for the buffet (we were not informed that we needed to plan this 7 days prior). We had given them a phone number so they could have called up to remind us about the buffet planning but have not.They had then told us that they had booked 3 tables where our booking was planned for so could not accommodate the large party. My mum then went into the pub and discussed just having the people come to the pub for a drink and nice time but the pub refused and said that they absolutely cannot accommodate our party. We have had to cancel this amazing opportunity for old friends to rekindle and has prevented us from celebrating an amazing milestone that my mum has reached.
