Sea Master Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Reading

Disappointing this time. I normally LOVE Seamaster but tonight it wasn't just right.

Fish wasn't well done as I'd asked (just taken a standard fried item from the top counter), and I had to reiterate the order twice to the young girl serving me otherwise I'd have not received what I'd asked for. Good job I checked as she was about to prep peas instead of 2x curry sauce (and then asked me for a further £1.50 as I'd already paid for what was [I thought] my full order).

On checking my order back at the car I found it wasn't securely wrapped either, but decided to just get home rather than challenge my order, so my supper needed reheating when I got home.

This is a real shame as usually Seamaster has been my go-to chippy and the food and service is usually top notch. I can only put tonight's glitch down to her being new, but the young lass needs to up her game; I went to the chippy when it was quiet and there were no queues. I'd hate to see how she copes when it's rammed and there's queues snaking out of the door.

Edited to add: Thank you to the owner for the kind reply. I'll politely decline the offer of a free order, but would ask that maybe staff training needs to be tightened up. I'll take account of the young girl maybe being nervous, but listening to the customer's order and then maybe repeating it back to the customer before ringing it into the till would help so as to avoid errors. Also, she needs to learn pack chips properly and tuck the papers in tightly. I'll be visiting again from time to time - I'm not shallow enough to go elsewhere - but I'm sure the issues could be overcome with some more stringent staff training.

PS: The young girls who had blonde hair who used to be counter staff were amazing. They weren't on tonight - or have they left? Either way, their service and customer attention used...

Utterly disappointed. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼Given the google reviews 4.5 rating I took my guest to Seamaster yesterday evening. We placed the order and waited 10 mins outside the shop. There were no chips with our fish wheb I asked they said 'oh we did not charge'. We paid for the chips and thought it happens the staff misheard us. No big issue so far. We then made our way to their dinning area and we were stopped by the chef/manager 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 in a very blunt way. He said ' Dinning area is now closed (7:30pm) and there is extra charge for dinning". We found the manager very unprofessional. We took our food and found a pavement nearby outside the shop. We then found they have not put salt and vingegar on our fish and chip. I walked back to the shop and asked for salt and vinegar and also asked where does it say that dinning area closes at 7:30pm and dinning menu prices are different. Staff had no answer and then I heard chef/manager in a very direct tone asking me what do I need now. I said I find you rude, mislaeading and your staff did not get my order right. The manager said " I have trainees' working on the front counter" to me that is the problem of the business and not the customers. Now talking about the food, fish and chips are 4/5 and their curry sauce🚫 is horrible. Will I visit this place again? " Absoultely Not" I really value our local businesses and if Seamaster cares to reply to my review I would like to speak to the owners...

I bought fish and chips I asked for large fish and small chips I was given a small fish which was very crispy batter fish the fish was very dry to much chewy fish it was not fresh as the fish has been in the range for more than 30 min I called the shop and spoke to a guy explained him I was not happy with the service and the food. He recommended that I come back to the shop and take another fish I travelled all the way from caversham to the shop to expect a fresh large fish which I paid £12.50 when u went there I spoke to the man and said I have come to collect the fish and he was very rude arrogant and said to to the staff give her the fish from the range. He never offerd to cook me a fresh fish and apologise very appuling behaviour Rude staff. Avoid going here the quality of the fish is gone down hill which use to be very tasty fresh fish. Don't pay this price if can't get fresh food don't go here. I used to be regular customer not going her ever again not after today experience and disgusting behaviour so rude. Have youngsters working there should...
