the victoria is a pub not a restaurant and priced accordingly it is normal for people who have booked a table to let the staff know that thay have arrived and not watch tv and play pool for an hour,no wonder the landlady rolled her eyes when asked about the table as the staff were just about to treat it as a no show the landlady took the order at the table something that is not usually done to speed things up as now the were other customers ordering and it was causing problems in the kitchen with too many orders at once the sunday roasts at the victoria are very popular and checks are done to see if there is an issue with the food and the table in question said how lovely the food was,the salmon is cooked in the oven with a little butter and lemon juice so would not know where the oil came from, yorkshire puddings are homemade not frozen and are usually very good crackling only comes with the large pork but i believe some was given to the table but it had to be finished off first any one with any sense would ask first there is no table service so desserts and the bill would have to be asked for and paid at the bar the group in question were acting very strange and spoke to one of the staff who had just started 5 mins previously about being watched ,obviously she knew nothing because nothing had been said the landlady didnt want to speak to the group as by now they had been drinking for 5 hours and didnt feel safe going over to them crowded around the pool table the moral is if you want to pay £11.95 for a 3 course meal you wont get restaurant service and shouldnt expect it and go somewhere and pay £30 a head instead, customers like that are not wanted in...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘The’ Sunday roast. (The best, it’s big). Sky Sports football. Pet friendly. Diverse clientele. Live music. Karaoke. Character. Atmosphere. Great staff. Good beer selection and guest ales. New late hours until midnight. ———————————————————— The Victoria in Tilehurst is a proper English pub. Great venue, attention to detail decor, nice gardens (they have banana palms, quality). TV screens showing the football. Lively diverse crowd of locals - it gets noisey. Music from the juke box. Decent number of tables to sit at and drink or eat. The menu is good - the lasagne … the smell…the taste… and offers standard pub fair (the Sunday Roast). The landlords are cool and do not tolerate stupidity. Staff are friendly and service is good. Security on the door as is standard these days. There is a pool table. This has the character of the old pubs I grew up in … I didn’t think they existed anymore… Great pub. Recommended. 5...
Read moreSo for Mothers day we thought we would come here for lunch -7 of us. When we walked in the manager (who was also the cook and waitress) rolled her eyes but showed us which table we had and gave us one menu to share between us all. What can i say about the food? The pate was dolloped into a pot and splattered on the sides-not very appetising! The yorkshire puddings looked like they had been sat on, and were more like pancakes, the salmon was very oily and the meat was tough. We had to ask for crackling, which came out much later. We weren't asked if we wanted dessert, coffee machine was broken and we had to ask for the bill despite sitting at the table for 2 hours! When we asked to speak to the manager we were told she was too busy to speak to us, and she had told the bar staff to keep an eye on us in case we left without paying the bill. We wont be returning, or...
