Holts have done an amazing job renovating this pub, the interior looks amazing and is a huge improvement on it's previous incarnation.
Staff are well trained and really thoughtful and polite.
However, the menu is a little strange and not a hearty pub menu as you'd expect from Holts or a village pub. Lots of Morrocan influence and no pork on the menu.
I chose the cheese and onion pie - which is delicious, if its the same as other Holts pubs it's made by HMPies - however the portion of beans could have been counted on my fingers! I politely asked if it would be possible to have a little more beans and the staff came back and said "no, as it's portion controlled". I'd just spent £150, thought they might have given another couple of spoon fulls without drama!
Also no horseradish available which seemed strange as it's a staple with Sunday lunches that the rest of the party had ordered.
When the landlord came to ask for feedback I told him about the the portion size of the beans and refusal of a little extra, he just blamed the kitchen - surely a landlord should be across all aspect of their business?
All in all the new pub is nice surroundings for a quick pint, but I wouldn't go back for food - other local Holts venues like The Woodthorpe have a better menu and a more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my husband my son and daughter and their spouses and children to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday tonight. A party of 13. the table was booked for 7pm and we were all seated at 7pm. at 7 15 we had to ask a waitress to take our order because we had been ignored until then. It was 8pm before our meal was served. The chunky chips with the meal were tiny and we had only 6 each, the portions were very small and the food although arranged really nicely was not good, it was 8,45pm before we managed to get ice cream for the two small ones after asking for itNo one was asked if they wanted dessert.. . All in all the service was terrible, the bill was presented without a word, payment taken and then we were dismissed again without a word! needless to say we will not be going there again it was a really bad experience and spoiled an...
