Visited this cafe today with my 4 year old, 4 month old, a friend and her 4 year old. We arrived cheery but departed feeling very disappointed by the way we were treated by the owner and I'm assuming, her son. I had just come from the local park to meet my friend who had arrived by train. I bought some strawberries, crisps and a sandwich wrap from the local Co-op as the plan was to head back to the park. I didn't want a coffee but my friend really wanted a coffee and chose this cafe because she'd visited it before and enjoyed the outside space. We decided to go in, I ordered 2 coffees for us, 1 decaf as I'm breastfeeding and 2 milks for the kids. While outside, the children had a few of the crisps and strawberries and I had a quick bite of the sandwich I bought from the Co-op (I hadn't eaten much today as I'm not familiar with the area and found it difficult to find anything vegetarian plus my 4month old is teething so was fussy and irritable and wanting to breastfeed constantly throughout the day so this was my first chance to quickly eat) there were no customers outside and only an older woman in a red gingham apron sitting at a table (owner) and a pensioner at another table, the environment was sterile inside so we were happy to be in the sun outside. We were chatting happily and enjoying watching our children laugh when the son arrived with our order and barked at me that " we don't appreciate you bringing food from outside in here, Jempson's doesn't let you and neither do we." I apologized and put my bitten into wrap in my bag, I honestly was shocked and a bit taken a back by his tone and approach! A few minutes later the woman in red gingham apron comes over to moan and nag at me (already been told by the son) we were just trying to enjoy the coffee that we had purchased for £6.85 (it was ok coffee, tasted quite nice and was a good temperature) but it couldn't be enjoyed as this woman had a bee in her bonnet and stood at the back of the garden watching us and commenting about us and pacing up to our table to nag, I told her to leave us alone and let us enjoy our coffees that we had purchased (I left most of mine as I just wanted to get out of that toxic environment!) They seem like they are a struggling business as there was only the pensioner inside maybe that's why they kept jumping down my throat but this is not the way to go about gaining new customers! Give a breastfeeding mama of 2 a break...it was one quick bite of a store bought sandwich I could understand if we didn't buy anything else. I wiped down the table as my daughter spilt her milk and left no mess of strawberries or...
Read moreSo today I met a friend at this restaurant for coffee and cake. We arrived about 10.30 and we were delighted with our drinks and I had a small cake. It was not to busy and we sat outside and chatted . We had been there for over an hour and we were having a relaxing chat. Then one of the members of staff approached our table with a reserve sign to say ‘we are busy over the lunch period and will need the table ‘ he then placed the reserve sign on our table. There were many empty tables with no reserve signs on them , and we would have been happy to move , but he gave us the impression we had finished our drink and it’s time we left. Little did he know we were going to stay for lunch!! Never have I felt so unwelcome in a restaurant in my life !! And I’m 70 . So to the owners of this establishment shame on you for making us feel like second rate citizens. Never again will I step foot in...
Read moreMy friend and I went into this resturant/cafe on Friday. Unfortunately our experience was terrible. We sat down and looked at the menu, I was happy as I was able to choose several things that didn't have tomato in as I have a severe tomato allergy. After explaining that I had this food allergy the waiter took our order and he then said that they use tomato in a lot of the food and could not guarantee that there could be contamination. I explained that it was a a severe allergy and was very concerned. He then said they were not prepared to buy new chopping boards just because I had an allergy if I had a peanut allergy it would be different. I was shocked at his attitude and found it very rude as I am not able to change what I am allergic to. Weet as I could not take a chance of becoming ill. We will not return and suggest if you gave food allergies not to requent this...
