Picture Playhouse, Western Road, Bexhill
I love this place......I've only visited a few but this is hands down the best Wetherspoons I've been in. The pub chain have restored this beautiful old building in a sympathetic way....it's full of period features and well matched fixtures and fittings. And it's just a five minute walk away from the lovely seafront. The bar area is striking with a huge array of beverages and is set in a room adjacent to the very large dining space. Despite its size, this room retains an air of comfort and cosiness with its individual booths, wall panelling, and decorative ceiling and windows. Where areas are not already divided into booths, screens are in place to create a more Covid safe environment, and sanitizing stations are positioned in several places. The stairs to the first floor rise around a passenger lift.....both lead to the bathrooms and out to a wonderful, spacious decked area. The glass and stainless steel safety rails and varied plants create a modern garden atmosphere and for train spotters, one end of the deck looks down over the trains slowly coming in and out of the nearby station. We visited on an early Tuesday evening....steak night.....with some great deals on offer. My companion chose a substantial mixed grill with a variety of different meats, with fries and the usual trimmings, and I had the plant based Beyond Burger in a sourdough bun with fries and a few extras. From sending the food order via the Wetherspoons app to the meals arriving piping hot at our table, took exactly 9 minutes! During that time, both of our drinks.......non alcoholic on this occasion and included in the price of the meal deal....arrived. For a small extra charge, a good selection of alcoholic drinks are available as part of the deal too. We both thoroughly enjoyed the meals which were so filling, we sadly had to decline the offer of dessert. We sat chatting for quite a while after eating , but despite the restaurant becoming busy, we were reassured by the friendly staff that there was no rush for us to move on. I observed vacated areas being cleaned and sanitised before being occupied again and staff were wearing masks throughout. Customers were required to wear masks if leaving their table to use the bathrooms which were spotless and refurbished in a stunning art deco style. Oh, and the final positive to an enjoyable meal out? The total cost of food and drinks on this occasion was just over £19, excluding tip! This was no fine dining experience but well cooked, enjoyable food at an extremely reasonable cost, in great surroundings. I've visited a few times before and will definitely go back again in...
Read moreVisited whetherspoons just for an evening out and cheap birthday celebration after a day at work. Finished our meal and my partner just popped to the bathroom before we ordered a couple drinks, a security guard came over with a staff member saying that they’re just doing random searches. My partner who is South Asian was obliging and went with the security guard, I asked the staff member why are they calling him over bearing in mind he’s the only South Asian guy there. The member of staff said that someone had said they saw someone wearing a white shirt with a black cross body bag taking coke in the bathroom. I then went over to them on to find they are doing a pat down at the front of the restaurant in front of the whole bar. I brought up to them how this is extremely unprofessional and that they have made a scene without making the process discrete. Honestly speaking they should have called the police to deal with something like this rather than themselves. Of course there was nothing to find. From my partners view they had told him that someone saw him handing out coke, they had no straight explanation as to why they wanted to do this search. I said to them that there was a racial intension behind this whether it was from the person who supposedly had reported him or the from the members of staff. It is not the first time we have had to deal with racial discrimination, despite them saying they had spoken to him nicely, I believe that no one would feel comfortable being searched in front of a restaurant, we didn’t receive an apology after they realised it was a false claim. I will be taking this further but I wanted to leave this review so people are aware of what has happened and the unprofessional behaviour displayed by the staff...
Read moreI need to find the weatherspoons chef who helped us at lunch time !! 11:45am ish We were out with my Dad his partner and and my two sons! My dad's partner is registered blind and I had a pram. As you may know the exit only part is where there is no step access and the access with the step is entrance only. Trying to obay covid 19 rules we went to use step access. All of a sudden we were stopped by this member of staff. He assisted us through exit only and explained to us that we shouldn't have to struggle.. he then asked us where we would like to sit. By this point my 6 year old had it in his head that he REALLY wanted to sit upstairs outside. When we told the guy this he told us unfortunately the lift was out of order. This was going to be a pain as we had a pram and someone who is registered blind!!. Instead of leaving us he told me. ' if you want to sit outside then you should. I want to set a good example and if the lift is not working this should not stop you' He picked up the pram and supported us all up the stairs !! Such a nice thing to do. After he wasn't in his chef gear anymore I assume he had finished his shift. He came to see us to check if we were all okay and when we were ready to leave to let a member is staff know . What a great guy. I'm sorry I didn't get your name. I just knew he was a young guy over 6ft! I think the manager should atleast be made aware of what he done on his shift today. Going above and beyond . Well done him and thank...
