Avra Cafe — Restaurant in Rother

AVRA CAFE: GREAT SUPER BARBECUE 🍗 ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS IN BEXHILL. The good people at Avra have introduced a BAR-B-Q Wednesday night special evening. Cooking really excellent Greek barbecue food. I went to the first evening and it was wonderful. The food was cooked perfectly. I went for a chicken Souvlaki served with a bed of rice. The rice had additional vegetables - tasty but didn’t interfere with the actual basic flavour of the well cooked rice. The chicken is cooked on a skewer with vegetables, roasted peppers, onion et cetera added to the chicken - for further flavour. There are different variations available, lamb, pork, chicken beef. There is a vegetarian option, for example, various grilled vegetables as a side plate or can be ordered with rice. To finish off this lovely meal - I went for Greek yoghurt served with plenty of honey and walnut as a refreshing dessert. I hope this evening is successful for them. Bexhill could do with more variety in its restaurants, as it’s mostly Indian and Italian —-It was nice to go somewhere and eat freshly cooked vegetables and grilled meat like this. Avra during the weekdays cook breakfasts, and other English fayre —-omelettes, pies home made beef stews etc with a good selection of Greek dishes too. They are in the town Hall Square — across the road from Sainsbury’s from Sainsbury’s —— they are definitely worth a visit. Friendly and welcoming service. The lady serving seemed to know everyone by name and even though we are not local, we felt so welcome. The food was delicious, home cooked. Lot's of choice on the menu. Gorgeous proper coffee. I wish we had somewhere near us that was 5 star like this cafe. Update!! We visited 3 times during our weekend stay!! All food was lovely, tasty and well presented. But the best bit was the welcome from Annette, the team and the other customers. A real gem of a cafe. We even bought cakes to take home with us as we didn't have room to eat them after our brunch....

Amazing little cafe always full of local regulars which is a great sign but even as a passer by you're welcomed like an old friend! The English breakfast and gluten free brownie are to die for and the coffee top notch but there's an extensive menu of breakfast and dinner items that should have something for everyone. They have also started hosting Greek nights with a delicious sounding menu so look out for these!
