China House — Restaurant in Rotherham

We've ordered from here in the past and it's always been worth the 15 minute drive from where we live (they used to delivery to Maltby via just eat but stopped so we started to order for collection) However, after our experience today we won't be ordering again and I unfortunately feel the need to write this review to save other people from wasting their time and money.

We ordered the combination salt and pepper starter that comes to a little over £10, along with £13s worth of other food. While the other food was below their average standards (very soggy chips) it was the combination starter that we had the issue with. It came with a few spring rolls, 3 pieces of chicken, 2 very dry chicken drumsticks, 1 prawn, 3 ribs that were about the size of £1 coins with no meat on and what can only be described as a lump of salt with shredded beef hidden in there somewhere (see photos). The rest of the box was filled with onions and peppers.

We don't usually complain but for £10, the awful state of the food and what was meant to be half of our meal, we rang the shop up - the girl on the phone was lovely and offered us 20% off our next order and some salt and pepper chicken to collect now (as we requested due to the box being the majority of the food for people). We offered to take the box back to show them why we weren't happy, the girl stated they didn't need it back and to either keep it or eat it. The food in the box was basically inedible as the pictures show, apart from the 4 small spring rolls and chicken. As for the other food the chips were soggy and the beef in black in bean was tough. We barely touched the food.

My partner drove all the way back to the shop to collect the chicken, or, at this point due to the terrible food, request our money back at least for the £10 box. My partner arrived at the shop and the girl stated that the owner had been called during this time and she had been told to not give us anything.

My partner asked the girl to call the owner again, unhappy with driving all the way back just to be told there was now nothing they were willing to do. The owner stated to just "turn him away" and "not give him anything".

My partner was polite and didn't shout at any of the staff or act rudely on the phone or in the shop and the girl dealing with this in the shop was lovely throughout, unfortunately the behaviour and attitude of the owner was disgusting.

A completely wasted £25 and hour messing around driving there and back. Never experienced such awful customer service, or food for that matter, in our lives. I'm not sure if ownership has changed but the place has gone completely downhill.

Ordered from here for the first time last night and I ordered beef chow mein, what I got was a ‘special chow mein’ with beef, chicken, pork and prawns and loads of vegetables. It tasted nice and I ate the beef and 3 prawns, however I have food poisoning now from the prawns. The first two tasted okay and the third was really crunchy and fishy but didn’t think anything of it as I’ve never eaten prawns before but it’s definitely food poisoning from them. Wouldn’t stop me ordering from there again as the rest of the order was alright, just an easy mistake on their behalf giving the wrong chow mein (I didn’t complain as I didn’t mind trying something new), but wouldn’t have any fish from...

1hr 10 min no food. Called and asked. Rude woman on phone asks me for my address and what I ordered, proceeds to tell me that she has tried delivering twice… impossible I have an 8ft window in my living room. She apparently tried to call, lie ! My call log shows different. Offered for her to forget my food and come get a fiver for wasted fuel and she can’t tell me which house I am out of the only 3 on the private drive 🤦‍♀️ I have a camera by my front door which records all movements.
