After adding a five star review a few weeks ago, we decided to visit the Homestead again for Father’s Day but the experience was very different this time. Despite being booked in and arriving on time, we were told that there was a one hour wait for food after ordering. Disappointing that the planning hadn’t taken into consideration that those clients booking a specific time were being treated as walk-ins. Anyway we accepted the wait and ordered. One of our party who had travelled from Barnsley wanted the Mac and cheese as she really enjoyed it last time. It wasn’t available. Disappointing, but she made do with a burger which was ok. I ordered the halloumi wrap which I too had enjoyed last time. Everyone was served their meals except me. When they came over to enquire if all was ok, I pointed out that my meal was missing. It came a few minutes later but I wish I hadn’t bothered. The wrap was solid, didn’t even meet never mind wrap, was more like an open sandwich, was rock solid like a piece of plywood and the halloumi was cold. I gave feedback and the waitress thanked me for letting her know but there was no follow up. As it was Father’s Day, I didn’t make an issue of it to spoil the family gathering. I have to say that everyone else was happy with their meals. On to dessert. Our granddaughter had the pink doughnut but sadly we had to send it back as we couldn’t let her eat it as it was still frozen solid. My Cadbury chocolate Sundae was just chocolate floating in cold milk as the ice cream was totally melted by the time it came to me. After our enjoyable visit recently my Father’s Day visit was a huge disappointment as both my courses weren’t up to par, plus the waiting, unavailability of the Mac and cheese and the frozen doughnut. I left praise when the visit was good so it’s fair to point out the shortcomings of...
Read moreMy husband and I visited this pub on Sunday 3rd August 2025 for afternoon lunch. We had not been here before but we always like to try new places whenever we go out. Sadly we were disappointed with ''The Homestead''. Our table was very sticky and dirty, the cutlery had water marks on and I had to wipe those with my antibacterial wipes that I keep in my bag. There were used sauce bottles on the table ready to use but they had not been wiped and still had drips and sticky lids from previous guests. The table was secured with a beer mat under one of the legs and the chairs were badly torn and scratched. The whole place is very run down and is in need of some TLC throughout. I visited the ladies bathroom which was just the same. The walls were chipped and scratched and it didn't appear very clean to me. My husband even commented about the gents room which must have been bad if a bloke is even noticing. The food however was nice so we cannot fault the chef. The service was a little slow and we waited a while for our drinks on two occasions. One time, we got up from our table and went to the bar as we thought we had been forgotten about. We decided to have our final drink outside in the beer garden, mainly because by the time our dessert arrived we were in the company of 3 flies in our corner window (table 9). The outside was also in need of some TLC, the weeds and dead plants were so overgrown, there was some wrappers on the pavement that had not been picked up and two or three of the wooden benches looked ready to be skipped as they were covered in rot and mould. It's a nice location with a nice outdoor area, it just needs some real TLC putting into the place. Sadly we will not be...
Read moreMe and my partner went to the Homestead on Friday and although we have been many times before and had lovely food tonight the food was really not good (this was not due to the menu change which we do not like, the old menu was MUCH better) apparently the chef left and they have a new one, I had to send my meat back for a second grilling and it still came back undercooked (the meals before from the old chef were beautiful and quality but the food has definitely really gone down hill since the old chef leaving). The ONLY reason I would return (and still gave a 10!) is due the the amazingly lovely member of staff Morgan. We have been in so many times and she is so absolutely lovely friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for her. She goes above and beyond every time we visit no matter how busy it is, she is an absolute credit to the company, am amazing young lady who is a wonderful ambassador for the company!!!! Thank you so so much Morgan for being so lovely kind and helpful (as always) we really appreciate (and so obviously do other customers too) all your hard work, time and effort. The company are SO lucky to have you .......
