Staff not wearing facemasks and not keeping distance from tables when serving. They were often standing right by the table and often leaning across us when clearing tables too. This would be less of an issue if you were served by one staff member consistently, however we had all of the front of house staff attend our table at some point during the visit. I don't think the restaurant staff have taken enough preventative measures given the current pandemic. The only positive is that tables are well distanced at least.
The service itself wasn't great either. One waitress spilled some of our food (chips) when delivering it to our table, saw that she had done it, and made no mention or apology of it either, before walking away. Given the price, I wouldn't expect to have to clean up my own dinner from the table before I can eat it. There was also other issues with drinks - we were served the wrong drinks, then had to chase up staff to get our actual drinks, which eventually arrived after our food. Then, the coffee I ordered did not have the requested syrup added.
Lastly, I was overcharged and requested the price to be checked. I was told it was actually because the most expensive steak will get charged for as the meal when choosing a double-up option. There is no mention of this on the menu and staff do not make this clear when ordering. It wasn't worth the hassle to argue over, but again - a bit disappointing.
That being said, the food is still good and the novelty factor makes it one of the better places to eat in Rugby. However, it's also one of the more expensive places in the town and based on the service I experienced, I'm at two minds if I would...
Read moreI visited this restaurant with my boyfriend for his birthday. Normally I'm not really a meat eater and especially no steak but I booked it for my boyfriends birthday because he loves steak. But after that visit, I couldn't stop thinking about the food there because it was so good and I also enjoyed the Fillet Steak that I had so much! It was such a nice experience cooking your own meat on the lava stone and it was so much fun to do so. I can't wait to come back to eat there again.
Service was amazing, very welcoming and helpful. They explained how everything works and gave us suggestions on how to handle the lava stone.
A little nice extra that they offer is if you book a table on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday after 6PM, you're able to book it with 15% off all your Mains which is a nice plus. But either way, the food is definitely worth the money.
When you enter the building you get into a kind of Pub/Bar only for drinks and you have to go upstairs to get to the restaurant, so don't be irritated at first.
I can definitely recommend this place to all the steak lovers or for people who like to give it a try, as you see, even if I don't really like to eat steak I ended...
Read moreHad a great meal here. Food was amazing. Although we have done the whole 'lava rock' thing in other places, it was a great experience.
One thing we wish we had done was to ask for a spare side plate or something, as there is never a space to put your steak when you want to take it off the stone and stop it over-cooking.
The atmosphere is good, it's quite a small room above a busy pub (which you walk through to get to the restaurant) so we weren't sure what to expect when we first walked in -- but it's totally worth it.
Just a small tip: don't make the mistake I did and wear a brand new outfit. You will have to wash everything due to the cooking / smokey smell. (This is not an criticism of the restaurant, it's inevitable due to the format. They do have strong extractor fans to help with this).
Would definitely eat here again in the future. It's quite a drive for us or we would come more often but I'm sure we'll be back...
