The Griffin — Restaurant in Rugby

Came out feeling like I'd just been robbed after ordering 3 carverys and 3 small drinks. This is a pub playing at putting some food on. It needs to just stick to being a pub I'm afraid to say. Quite honestly the worst carvery I've ever had in the town and wish I'd saved the money and done it myself. The cauliflower cheese that you have to pay extra for was just a chunk of the same Cauliflower from the main on a separate plate with a bit of cheese chucked on and microwaved ( absolutely awful and not Cauliflower cheese ) 3 different types of meat were ordered and all were quite dry and tasteless, gravey was like brown water. Mash was like glupe. Roasties were aunt Bessie's and not even cooked to a crisp, veg looked very sorry for itself. The ice cream on the brownie was so weird, never seen ice cream melt like this, maybe it was all the ice crystals in it. An all-around horrible...

Bizzar, Rang up and booked Sunday lunch, Sunday morning, 8 people for 3:30 pm, turkey and pork is the fayre, ok I said. We, or 5/8 of us arrive at 3:32 to be greeetd with 'we finish 3:30 what's your order?' I'm phoning the stragglers for their order. Didn't realise it's only Sunday lunch, my fault. Should have left at that point but we are hungry. The waitress who had finished her shift stayed on to serve us nicely. Pork was mainly fat or rare. Rare pork? Turkey's was chicken, which was ok but reformed steaks.

About 10, 11 plates arrived at the table. Some chicken, some pork, some a mix with aunt Bs roast potatoes as we ordered, some lots of vegetables to share. Gravey was very sweet and apple sauce was mango chutney; Drinks, we ordered 3 teas. Fine, but they were earl grey, sophisticated, but we wanted regular tea. Just not right. It was cheap and should have confronted them...

Happened to call in this place when looking for somewhere to eat when working in Rugby. For a first time in the pub we we made to feel so welcome. We ordered a main meal each and it was amazing, I had the chicken platter and my colleague had a sirloin steak, we were both impressed by the quality, value and service. I will most definitely call back when working in Rugby. Having just read some of the older reviews, the lady behind the bar was saying how she had only had the place 4 weeks, I would recommend a visit to see...
